Ok, I know what year and what model and etc..etc.. of CJ springs to use, But has anyone used springs other than Ranchos or the good ol' JC With-knees $50 deals.
I was looking at going w/ OME's or something mild'y lifted but better riding then the Ranchos'...oh never mind I'm going w/ the $50.00 JCW's and swaping leafs till I get it right unless anyones got a better Idea...
Thanks again,

I used the J.C Whitney springs cuz I'm cheap! They worked ok. A little stiff though. I would look for a softer spring if you want to really stuff it well and compare the price. I have heard that some makes of Rancho are soft and some are REALLY stiff. I'm not sure where the Rancho CJ's falls in there.

Mine came with 5 leaves - I pulled the clamps off & swapped the shortest leaf for the Stock Samurai overload (with several inches cut off of it). My rear fenders are cut & flares moved up as far as possible and 35" BFG's would still touch the flare...
But like I said, I carry a Lot of junk

If you want to be a ramp champ why not go 1/4 elip, or coils. Come awnn, don't waste your time and money with the other crap! Get it...

Ramp Champ...LOL... ..
Nah, I just like the way that my revolvers work, and ride. But I want to go to the longer CJ springs for a better highway ride so the wife doesn't get all pissed off while we're driving to go wheeling.
...Pissed off wife + Wheeling and she driving =

Really though, I like to be comfortable and cap-a-bull, (no I can't spell right now) Hince the Longer Springs, Anything to help this ride, and still be safe..

There were a couple guys from back east (Minnesota?) that were running the Spidertrax setup. It was the yellow/orange with the custom cage. Unfortunately I didn't really get to see it work. I followed out with them, but there wasn't anything difficult enough to really push it.

My spring set up works just about as well as I could ask it for with the type of wheeling I do. The area I wheel in is nothing but hard core Rock. Its nice to flex but all the m-links and buggy leafs and what have you don't get around here. I like flexible to an extent. Besides my rig can still ramp a 1000, after that who cares? It use to flex even more, but I like it better now with less. I'm looking to build a balanced rig, and I think I'm close.. What type of trails is everyone else running.

I've seen the Spidertrax set up, it gets it! However the rear set up is CASH. Not to mention what about the front, all rear and no front doesn't mean shit to me.My .02

Heh FatKid,
Im running tight narrow, muddy, and sometimes rocky trails up here in WA, and thats why I like my stock springs. flex is good w/ the revolvers, but I dont' want over flex or body roll. I love to drive to where I'm wheeling and want a well rounded vech. also... just need bigger tires and alitte better ride..well maybe...

That's Robert's (from Sacto) Tacoma right?

I have to agree about the YJ's. I have then on mine and love the ride. They are soft, but still handle the road pretty well for a lifted zuk. They flex very well offroad. The only thing I need to do to them is get my spring over pads on there. I was dragging on way too many rocks with the springs. Even spring under it did very well on the con considering both diffs are open.

Yep that is Taco himself....been wheelin with Rob for years now...he lives down the street from me. Yeah that truck can wheel!!! I just put Chevy springs on the back of that for him 2 weeks ago.....he cant find a spot to hang a tire now!!!
Her is when i FIRST put on the springs and pulled out of the garage!

Is there a need to run a traction bar with a YJ set up?

Rudezuk

When i used stock YJ springs i didnt have any problems....i went to a double shackle setup in the rear and now i have to.... so im going back to a solid shackle mount.
Fatkid, where are you located??...Sac?? If so, you could swing by and check it out, or i could helpyou do this conversion.

If only you could have made it in on Thursday. His buddy (who I can't remember his name) has the final production version of the coil setup. He laid it on it's side on the way in giving a really good view of the whole suspension setup. It is very nice. Very clean and professional looking.

The thing about the coil kit is that it is 1500 bucks!! You can put YJ's, and new rims and tires under you Zuk for that much!!

I'm about 7 hours out side of Sac to the North, it's a little bit more than a swing for me.

I'm at the point now where I'm going to leave well enough alone. Besides that I haven't run a trail where my suspension has has been the problem. As a matter of fact I haven't had any problems.....

Yup. Watch the Suzuki Department at ORC in about a week (1st of the month...). The full install will be featured. I love the articulation it gave me after pulling off the Calmini S/R. Difference was night and day.

My buddies Tony and Hugh both run cj rears all around, and they flex like crazy, and its a real lo-buck set-up. This is Hugh's rig in triple rock at Hollister this spring. The rock he is on is huge.

I got a few questions:

My neighbor and I are building up a Samurai (or I am helping him build his). I have a set of 4" lift YJ springs, that we wanted to swap under his Samurai. They are very flexy, and they are 6 pack leaves, so we were going to bring them down to 3 leaves, and do a spring over on his samurai. WIth the three leaves it will sag more, so I am guessing they will be about 3" of lift for a YJ.
So, how much lift do you think a SPOA (I think its about 4.5" lift, right?) + YJ 3" lift springs would give a Samurai? OR a abetter questions would be, what do stock YJ springs do for a samurai (how much lift?)?
We want to figure out if its too much, or what size tire we can run under there. We were hoiping to run 36's . . . Oh, and we are putting Toyota axles under it too . .

Poppycock has 3 in OME yj springs and it would clear 36s no problemo, It is real tall. He, however, cut the heck out of it and is going to 38s.

Did you ever post any close up pics of what you did RudeZuk? I'm keen to see more details of how you did the conversion.
