Hey all,

I'm opening myself up here to being flamed but oh well, what else is new. :flipoff2:

We've been stressing on whether or not to go exo or indo with the cage on PBA and I think we've finally decided to go with the exo. We are pretty positive we're gonna roll this bitch so we want to try and retain as much of the body as possible in the event of a fawk-up. I also have a tendancy to play ping pong between trees on tight trails at high speed... :grinpimp:

I'm having a very hard time getting answers from OBC folks on what is required. I know the event states back to CCDA regs but I can't seem to find any reference to exo cages. Someone said that even if we went exo we would still need to go with a hoop behind the seats. Can anyone confirm this?

We're planning on tying into the rear bumper/frame, rocksliders/frame and front bumper/frame on both sides. Also, top and bottom on the windsheild, down the front fenders to bumper, roof gutters the lenght and some criss-crosses around. I'm open to any suggestions on where we should route tubing on the rig so please speak up. If anyone feels like doing a sketch or photo shopping something on a Disco that would be cool too. Just make sure the tubing is pink. :grinpimp:

We're meeting with a cage guy on Monday morning at 9:00AM and I would like to be able to talk somewhat intelligently if possible. This will be the first cage we've built so I'm worried. We have a basic idea of what we want but I would hate to do something ass-a-nine that could have been prevented with a little input from others who have been there already.

Thanks all,

First of all you need to read here:

If you are stuck on an exo cage, you should put off the cage building until the rules have been sorted out, otherwise build an internal cage.

You don't want to build an exo now, then find out in a month you need to fit an internal cage as well. Or worse still, get to Australia and fins out your cage doesn't comply and you can't compete.

Based on my copy of last years CCDA regs Exos are not allowed. Conversations with the OBC folks have inticated that due to the higher sppeds and teh fact that the event is "Highly competitive" they are going to be very strict on safety issues.
You need to send your dirver to Oz once in a while to get this info..
Realistically it's a competition truck do an internal cage, ultimatly it is safer and lighter plus what additional weight you do put up top is 6" closer to the ground. It also makes the required cargo barrier easy to install..

I'd guess the Australian rules are based on FIA, like in Sweden and England, for instance. FIA is the international body governing all international mororsports. All cages according to FIA are internal. Cages (according to FIA) are to protect the people travelling in the car. The mpment arm of an exo cage is much larger than an internal, so internal is the way to go for maximum personnel protection.

If you then want to add tube to protect bodywork it may be acceptable according to the rules, but make sure you make it at least as strong as the other parts of the cage if you tie them into each other.
