I have a GM posi in my rear diff. It doesn't work anymore. My question is, What would be the best way to put in a new locker? Put in a GM or turn it back to Toyota?

I assume you have a GM rear end in that pig? Eaton just came out with their electric Locker for the GM 12 bolt and 14 bolt rear ends. I saw a write up in one of the 4x4 rags.

Are you saying that you have a Gm locker in your toy rear, or are you running a 12 bolt rear?
If you are running a 12 bolt rear, I have the perfect solution....buy my complete 12 bolt rear with factory LS diff, new brake shoes, wheel cyls, and shoes, 6 lug, 3:73 gears...all for $175:skull:

A guy around here used to modify old GM posis to fit in a cruiser housing. Yours is probably modified also so if you remove it you'll need to replace your carrier with either a stock unit (so you can use a lockrite type locker) or use a full locker like a arb or detroit.

I'd recommend rebuilding the gm one unless you need the absolute locking power of a full locker.

You can run a factory chev locker in a Cruiser diff
I believe mine came out of a chevy 1/2 ton
All you need to do is modify the carrier to except the Cruiser ring gear (pretty basic machine shop work) then bolt it together, the problem is the carriers are prone to cracking which mine did after a few years. While the locker was in my rear diff I was happy with it on the street, very happy with it in mild wheeling, and cursed it several times in the really hard stuff.
I have a full floater rear diff so I don't know if it would fit with c-clips. The locker would have been great in the front diff if I hadn't destroyed it.
Now I run a Detroit/rear and an ARB/front, no fancy machine shop mods, easy to get replacement parts, and way more bite.

sorry guys, maybe I sould add more info. next time.
well here's the scoop...
I have a toyota 10 bolt with a modified carrier assembly to fit an old GM posi. The stupid clutch packs are so worn out, it spins just like a normal rear end. The GM posi has no cracks in it, Marlin even said so. Anyways, so I'm guesing you can either rebuild the GM posi or take out all that crap and put in a detroit? The Detroit sounds better to me... Hey anybody know anything about the Gearless Detroit or the cheapy version? Which is better. My Crusher is a daily driver, but I like to wheel it off-road.

Hey B, Lockrite that pig. I'm sure Marlins got more then a few stock carriers. Since I know you like to play on the rocks don't mess with that posi crap. You got to have full lockers to do this

Hey dave, glad to see you are alive. What kind of weak picture is that? How much you think Marlin will charge me for a carrier? Damn, I'm not rich. Anyone got a spare rear end they want to sell?D:Pic8.bmp

I'll look around for one, Might cost about $20. I know you can swing that. About that pic being weak, I know:p but if you have a posi run it in your chevy so you don't break traction on pavement. And if you have a toy here's another reason for full lockers.

The last FJ lockrite I bought was about $220 from Vince. I think the detroit are a little more. All I know is you can put a lockrite in the rear of a cruzr in about an hour and in the front in about 2 hours( repacking the wheel bearings and new seals). so for about $500 and a friday night you can be rolling fat on saturday:grinpimp:

well, i was just thinking of doing the rear. so i'm thinking gearless detroit, sounds like its not that much more--- anyways are those gearless-limited slip or a full on locker?

I think the Detroit has the "easy locker" which is alot like the lockrite. I think the gearless is a less agressive locker, if I remember right fearless gear told me its more for light wheeling trucks that also serve has pavement pounders, mall caddys, shopping carts and most the popular SUVs on the market.. He didn't reconmend it for 35" and lower gears with the gearless. If you what the best I would get a full Detroit, if not get the cheaper of the Lockerite or Detroit Esay locker. Or WELD it up and you will never have any CLICK CLICK CLICKY CLICK CLICK aru from your rear end. I like the click aru because it tripps people out when you turn :p

hey dave, are you open friday, sat. or sunday. cause i wanna do it this weekend! i'm wheeling next week in the snow, and i think it'd help to have it. anyways, do i have to buy a set up kit, or does that come with the lockright? and does lockright have a warranty like detroit?
