Hey ya'll,
My wifes 97 Discovery has an odd rattle coming from the Catalytic converter on the left side of the block. Im not really in the mood to purchase a down pipe assembly after just replacing the Oxygen Sensors. Anyone have a similar problem?. Can this "Cat" be cut out and an aftermarket be put in it's place?
Any opinions will be appreciated thanks all.

Take it to your local exhaust guy and ask him to just repair the insides. It should cost around $370.

1. Yes, had that problem. I just left it and it went away. I figured I'd be replacing the entire exhaust at some point and it's been 12 months since I heard that noise and still haven't had to replace the exhaust.
2. I read about a few people who bought aftermarket cats and had them welded in, but don't know anyone firsthand who did it.
3. If you're a total hack, I read someone who put a sheetrock screw through it.

i did - catco units from summit racing. works fine - and a helluva lot cheaper. they're weld in, though.

Hey SeaRover,
You got a part number from summit on the Cat you used. Looking at whats available I couldn't fing a match for the year, model or engine size of my wife's vehicle. Thanks for your help.

soryr i don't have the PN #'s anymore, but i'm pretty sure i had posted them on the roversnorth board years ago when i did 'em. they've held up well - about 5 years and counting. echo OS' comment on the extra torque with these over stock :) i think a free'er flowing muffler and these cats are a much better improvement than headers. the stock exhaust manifolds make good torque in the lower rpm ranges. maybe with head work you'd want to use the headers, but i'd suggest running these other exhaust mods before doing headers / head work based on the way my 3.9 rangie has performed.
