I am not running lifted springs, but I am looking into it. In a lifted Samurai spring, I have heard the Old Man Emu is the way to go (2 to 3 inches of lift). I have heard that the Rancho springs for the Sami are too stiff (1.5 inches of lift). Poppycock has lifted EMU's I think. If he ever gets that thing out of his driveway we can find out how they really flex

I am interested in a slighlty lifted YJ spring, like 1.5 inches or so. I have heard that the Rancho YJ spring is pretty flexy. I met a guy on the Rubicon that was running the Superlift YJ. He said they were way too stiff.

Anybody out there have some real experience or ideas??

Tusker,
Have you thought about adding another stock leaf to your stock YJ's? I'm waiting for my spring over kit to get here and then I'm going to run 5 leaf packs on all four corners.

I didn't really want that extra height (I only wanted another 2 inches max), but I hung up on the springs too much so I'm just going to do it. If I find that the springs are still too soft, I will be adding one of the leafs from my left over 4 packs.

I'm buying a set of 5pack/4pack springs from a guy today. After I pick them up I will have four 5 leaf packs and four 4 leaf packs at my disposal to mix and match for a good combo of flex and stiffness.

I'm going to do the same a Mark. But... I'm going to mix and match my Stock YJ's with 2.5" Pro Comp springs. I'm going to start tweaking my suspension this week and get that Trail Tough missing link YJ conversion ordered for the front soon.....I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

how well does a 2.5" lift spring off a 4,000 pound vehicle work on a <2,000 pound vehicle
stiff, duh

Mark, I have six leafs up front right now. I added a full-length leaf from a four pack. Frankly, it could maybe even use one of the mid-length leafs as well in the front.

The rear is stiffer than the front (because of the outboard springs) so more leafs back there will hurt the flex. The rear has long shackles and 1/2" blocks and still sits 1/2" lower than the front empty. That is why I wanted to look at lifted springs. However, they would need to be as soft and flexy as the stocks.

Trail Tough has a YJ conversion now? Where have I been?! Gotta check that out.

hottrod,
I'm planning to use only 2 top springs from the 2.5" Pro Comp packs. I ordered the softest spring rate they made(yes...they sell different springs rates) They are only 10% stiffer then a stock spring. Just what I'm looking for!

Tusker,
I talked to Brent from Trail Tough and he told me they have a YJ conversion for the front that is NOT a shackle reverse. It uses a short missing link/J-shackle combo and is supposed to offer flex!!!!! The best deal for me is that I don't have to sell that new $400 Trail Tough birfeild shaft I'm running on the front

zuk88. I'd like to see that Trail Tough kit when you get it done. Not having a shackle reversal really helps reduce the length of spline on the driveshaft and I bet it helps with the fender trimming requirements for clearance. Brent makes some really nice stough. You can probably fit 32's without the need for a sawzall (isn't that what you are running??). I had to carve the front of mine out to clear the 33's.

Tusker,
I'm running 31" BFG AT KOs and I saw how nice 32x11.50s looked on alot of rides at SOTR. I'm going to move up to the 32"s but this time I'm gettin' the new BFG MT KMs. That ought to work . Brents kit won't be ready for release for another week or so I'll let you know when it gets here, It's also a complete bolt on!!
