I am just about done with my '47 willys. The problem is I am 6'2" and getting to the gas pedal on top of the trans tunnel takes some contorting. What would you guys suggest I do? Stretching the body is not an option at this point, but maybe down the road a few years.

Thanks,
Bryan

I'm 6 ft and it's a tight squeeze into my 46. But, one thing that I've seen guys do it to remove the wheel housings and replace them with sections of 55 gallon drum. This allows you to move the seat back quite a ways, but makes mounting a normal rollbar more difficult.

Thanks Chuck, I was thinking of just cutting out about 3" of wheel well right behing the seat and moving back my seat, but I still would have to contort to get to the pedal, although the angle is better.

I am 6'4 and have a 46.

I cut out about 5 inches then put in summit drag-racing seats, these have a very thin back and give you more room for about 160$ for the pair. I extended my wheelbase so clearance at full flex is not a problem...even when I put on the 38.5's

Hey 46willys where is your gas pedal? Mine is on top of the tranny tunnel almost behind the shifter, and it's only about 3" from the brake pedal! I am trying to figure out where it would be the most comfortable. Maybe a hand throttle, ala motorcyle, on the shifter. I know it probably wouldn't be safe, but it ain't gonna work the way it is!

Just modify the wheel wells enough to move the seat back and be done with it. My pedal is mounted on the small rise between the tunnel and the floor. It's tight for me at 6' but manageable. Maybe you should have built a 7 instead.

This is what I am planning on doing to my flatty: http://www.jeepingoffroad.com/extraseatroom.htm
I found this link a while ago about a flatty build up. Check out the rest of the site. It is a nice clean flatty.

Yep, you can do what everyone here has mentioned.....or you can do it right and stretch the tub, wheelbase, etc. I still can't beleive that you are "almost done" and are only addressing this issue now

I put my own floor in it and the pedal actually does not mount to the firewall bit instead to my transmission tunnel...I just screwed a peice of angle iron to the tunnel then mounted the pedal to that, that way i could keep it over to the right as far as possible and be able to adjust it front and back if i ever wanted to.

Hope that helps

I have several friends who love the look of the flat fender(3B does it for me) but we just cant fit. My buddy Kirk just bought a beautiful m38 that would be done with a couple d44s but he cant fit so we are turning it around for more money with some cleanup. I cant even fit in my 74cj5 so I am building a YJ. I think I might look into getting a 3b and extending the body, that sounds like the best solution since building something else isnt an option for most of you guys.

you should talk to Frank out at Rears and Gears and see if you can't find his old cj3b, my brother lengthened it so Frank could fit in it:eek: Might be worth looking for, if it's still around.

When I bought the flatfender it took my buddy's dually and trailer 2 trips to get it home. I got a swingin' deal at $500 for everything except a tranny and T-case.

I had sat it his '48 and thought I could make it work. He has racing buckets which, as mentioned earlier, are thinner in the back allowing it to be moved back. I have suspension seats which are more comfy at the cost of putting you closer to the dash.

I think I will notch the fender well as much as I can and go from there.

Thanks and  for all your help!

Edit:
I am going to cut out the front of the wheel well and slide my seat back until I am reasonably comfortable and then make it work.

I will post picks of the whole process after I am done.
