View Full Version : Got a Winch for Christmas!!

Ok so I got a winch for christmas but now I have a few questions...what alternater should I run? Should I do duel battery set up? All I have now is a stock alternater on a 20r....I also got some headlights that come from Europe...200X brighter..need I say more:cool2: :cool2: :D

Really depends on what you want to do, doesnt it. An occasional pull here and there doesn't need a lot of special set-up. (assuming everything is in good shape to start with)

on the other hand, if you plan on being the local clubs winch monkey, I would go all out, duel set up, bigger alt, ect...

Your stock alt and battery will work fine.

I'd look into getting an Optima Yellow top (or similar) type battery. Install a hand throttle so you can set the rpm's up high to allow the aternator to keep the battery charged during elongated pulls.

go dual battery, that way even if you stall out in a mud hole (we all know never start your truck while pipes are under water) you can still pull it out ans start the truck. i have used Optima batteries and my cuzzin uses one in his eclipse, junk if you ask me. only thing nice is that its sealed and gel instead of liquid, i dont think they have any more power then a standard battery for $40.
