Anyone seen a write up online or in a mag on an 80in coil spring conversion using a RRC/Disco frame?

I have the LRM 88in coil spring write up but I am looking for something similar with the 80in.

I was given a carb V8 LT95 combo and the 80in stock engine and frame are toast and RRC frames are pretty much free around here so I think it is time to stop worrying about making it stock and just start building.

I have an 80in frame that the back half with X-member is good and I have a couple good front outriggers and I have a decent body (bulkhead is shot). I plan to run a pretty simple set up. I have some axles and I think I want to do a three link.

I would ideally like to see something that runs pendant style brake and clutch MCs for bulkhead fab.

<<I have the LRM 88in coil spring write up>>

Can you tell me what year and month this is? I'm starting a similar project and would love to read that.

Thanks.

Search "rolling thunder" and you will find them all. It is like 12 parts or more.

I have seen slade's and while nice it is built on an 80in Series I chassis. I need one built on a RRC chassis. My 80in chassis is beyond saving.

I thought I felt my ears ringing...

My advice? Don't do an 80-inch. It's too small. Do an 88 or a 90-ish. If you do an 80-inch I won't be as cool and exclusive anymore. :flipoff2:

Let's see some pics of your frame. I'm sure it can be salvaged.

If you can get a disco/RRC frame cheaply I would use that. They are a lot stronger at the suspension mounts - there are shaped sections of angle-steel inserted internally in each frame-rail where the shock mounts are. You can of course beef up the S1 frame, but it would be easier to start with the coiller frame, as you already have the suspension mounts, removable crossmember, etc... It is just a matter of fabricating and welding on the body mounts.
