5-speed 1992 pickup, SR5 v-6 blah blah

15mph is at 3000 RPM (1st)

30 is at 3000 RPM (2nd)

45 is at 3200 RPM (3rd)

60 is at 3000 RPM (4th)

75 is at 3000 RPM (5th)

I'm pretty sure thats correct...

the problem I seem to be having is that when I shift into 4th from 3rd, the RPMs dont drop... I think it happened once from 4th to 5th, but im not totally sure.

What it does is that it goes into 4th, stays at 3000 RPM's for a few seconds, and then goes back down to 2200 and climbs up.

what gives?

how many miles on your clutch? it sounds like your throw out bearing is getting stuck or something isnt letting the clutch engage immediately.

I'm pretty sure the clutch is original, so 201000ish...

the guy who had it before me was very gentle on it.... me, not so much, but i've only had it it since july so i dont think i could have done to much damage to it.

200k is a lot for the original clutch. I am on my fourth clutch that I know of with about the same mileage. If you have been driving it hard for 6 months you could have easily worn out a brand new clutch.

Like PsychoticDeadGuy said it sounds like the clutch isn't engaging.

A lot. Figure something like five hours labor at a shop (totally guessing here, could be a few more), and inflated parts prices. Five hours at $80/hr is $400 just for labor, add over priced parts ($200 ish), disposal/shop/WTF charges fees and tax, and you're... paying a few bucks ;)

Unless you do it yourself, then you can get it done for well under $200, barring complications. Have fun :flipoff2:

Beware of $80 dollar clutch kits from AutoZone and Checker/Shucks/Cragen with lifetime guarantees. They rebuild old units and resell them. I got on for my Ford years ago that ran $125 and within 2 months, the pressure plate was warped. I bought a new unit from Summit Racing.

i just did mine when i burned it up in a lake, for $120 i got t/o bearing, pilot bushing, disc plate, presure plate. good clutch, i put about 2,000 mile on it so far and i beat the hell outof it. i cant remember the brand name cuz i had my buddie that works at the local shop to pick it up for me. got a case of beer and pulled the t-case, tranny, bell and within 5 hours we had it running again. got a few bruses but i think thats from the case of beer :flipoff2: .
