: tuning brake pressure ???

Hello all,

I've swapped d44s under my '91 RRC.Chevy 1/2 ton front, S-10 rear.

The pump is there and working fine.(I do feel a cycling through the pedal.)
I put a "T" fitting and joined the primary circuit to the secondary circuit then 1 line down to each front caliper.
The rear has 1 line to each caliper.

Now the problem is that I have too much braking action. The only way is to feather the pedal, and the brake lights aren't even going on.( I can adjust the light with a little "fabbing"!)

Is the small cylinder on top of the distribution block a proportioning valve?

I'd like to tone down the pressure w/o having to put in 4 of the usual adj.prop. valves.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.
BTW, I pulled the plug ( three prong to hydro pump and the brake were better but once the accumalator ran out NO BRAKES at all!!!)

Haven't most of the folks who did the mods on the Classics replace the master cylinder/booster pump assy with a manual master cylinder? I thought the reason for doing the plumbing changes was to remove th ABS system, yet it sounds as though you want to retain the master cyl/pump setup.

You should just throw money at the problem by buying my used bits and changing parts to see what happens, just like a dealer! Hahahaha

KILL ABS........
You will not regret taking out the stock abs system. Many booster and M.C. combos fit with minimal fabrication work plus they are a so much simpler to work on.

Ok,

I know the obvious is to swap to '88 M/C but there has to be a way to turn down the pressure or maybe it's the volume , to the discs!

Anybody else have any ideas?!?

This system seems so close to having AWESOME brakes, they just grab too hard.

If I find something that works I'll post up! I f not I guess I'll put in the other M/C.

Given my understanding of the operationof the RRC ABS system, by applying full ABS system pressure to both circuits of the calipers would likely result in what you're experiencing.

When you say they grab too hard, is it that the fronts are lockingup and the rears are still turning, vice-versa, or are they locking up all the way around?

The hot rod suppliers all have many different pressure control valves to control brake bias on race cars, might be worth a shot. Some of these sytems even allow for on-the-fly control!

The speedway motors adjustable porportioning valve is the least expensive.

thanks guys,

I will keep you posted! I'll have to do some research to see which one s will suit my application best.
