Sorry to post a lame newbie question, but I am in a bind.

My dad and I bought a '96 F150 4wd for cheap to repair and sell. We are getting ready to put it up for sale, but there is one last issue.

The truck shimmys badly under braking. I thought it was problably the rotors, so I replaced them, along with the pads.

The problem still existed so I crawled down onter there to have another look.

This time I found that the frame was cracked, and the steering box was moving. I thought for sure that I had discovered the problem!

I welded it up and took it for another test drive only to find that the problem is still there!

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The truck has 127,000 miles and seems to have never had any maintenance done to it.

My next guesses are either a steering component (rod end or something), or perhaps a radius arm bushing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

welcome to the world of deathj wobble my friend, my pickup does the same, really does it when i try to slow down. it can be many thing, warped rotors, bad alighnment, bad bushings. etc etc, check and replace all bad parts under the front end, problem solved

EDIT: it can also be cupped tires. this is the main cause of DW in my area
