: advanced handling

A new question: I used to see a lot of advertisement for the Advanced Handling shackle reversal kit. Now I no longer see it. I have put 17" wheels with 35" tires on my FJ40 with only a 2" lift. It works and only rubs a tiny bit in the front due, i believe, to using a narrow but tall tire. I believe that if I added the small amount of additional lift provided by a shackle reversal kit, it would not rub at all. Anyone have one for sell, or know where to buy one now? Thank you in advance... Matt

Most people make their own now and make them low profile (the original kits were referred to as stumpfinders) and rotate the housing knuckles or spring perches.

Ditto... my personal preference by FAR :D

Or you could do a little Sawsall trim on the front fenders.

If I recall correctly, ross of LCAH ran 38.5 SXs with 4" lift springs, shackle reversal in front, lift shackles in rear, and a 2.5" body lift. Back in the late 80's early 90's it was a pretty exteme rig. Hell it was even in one of the first top truck challenges until someone poured sugar down his intake.

I ran 36" swampers SUA with a FLAT 2" spring lift and a 2" body lift in the early 90's. It's a little different now :)

I will agree that the LCAH stuff was pretty high-tech at the time. It is still a great product for some users, but others would be best with a more modern shackle reversal..

Ever seen a shackle-reversal-reversal :D:D
NONE OF THE WORK DONE HERE ;)

Why did he reverse the reverse? Because of the "poor" handling... Why is there poor handline, IMHO because the spring eyes were NOT level in this setup (when it was reversed). The LCAH moves the front hanger down to make the spring level and restore the ideal handling. But the trade-off is the rock-finder front hanger. I prefer using a low profile hanger, and a a tube through the frame to keep them level, rather than a shackle below the frame in the original rear hanger.

Just my 2 cents.. :D

Manny, I will take photos as soon as I can. Please forward your regular email as I have not sent in my 20.00 to be able to post photos on this site. The wheels are the American Racing Teflon called "victor" (i think). The tires are Trxus 35/12.5/17 which makes for a slightly more skinny, taller look. I really like it and moreover, I really, really like that they are 10 ply. So many of the "offroad" tires purchased are only 6 ply which I don't think is so great for a hunting, coyote calling, go whereever rig; especially not so great in New Mexico where we do have a few cacti. I didn't know that the springs had to be kept level for good handling.

Cruiser, can I get some pics of the tube setup you do?
