I am new to landcruisers and am purchasing a 71' fj40 next week. Can a newer one piece hood bolt right up to the cruiser, it seems to have a older 2 piece maybe I am not sure. Also it has a colomn shift, what would i need to do to change this into a floor shift and what is a good range of what it will cost to do so. Also from the pictures it didnt seem to have floor sticks for the transfer case either, what would i need to do to remedy this, is this the way the 71' came? Anything else you could tell me about this year model, pros and cons would sure be helpful.

1> yes, the newer hoods bolt right up
2> cheap-way to floor shift: purchase a complete floor shift 3-speed tranny (1972 or 1973), should be $20-25 total...or less....pull the top plate/tower off, remove the corresponding top from your existing tranny, bolt the replacement on, cut the hole in your tunnel before reinstalling. It will cost more to ship than purchase, last one I ditched I only shipped the plate/shifter to save the buyer $$.
3> t-case: easiest would be to replace the entire front cone with a newer one, again 1972 and newer. Keep the old one for a spare...."believe" you can also just pull the linkage bolts off the side of the cone and replace that BUT there are differences in front outputs...stick to 1975-older or so IIRC....
