 here is the story. i bought a 81 landcruiser for a real good price. i already have a playmoney hog in the form of an 87 yj with an amc 401, t-18/dana 20, dana 44 front and a 60 rear. i also have an extra set of 44/60 axles, a 400 small block or a 350(take your pick), an sm 420, basically everything besides a t-case. should i build the landcruiser or keep it stock. i eventially plan on selling the cruiser to pay for an atlas and other play goodies. could i get more money for it in the factory condition or built? the kids can go without eating for how long?
oh and high 5 you are still :rainbow: :rainbow:

I'd just mildly build it to look nice. If you have a nice cruiser all touched up and such you could get a fair amount for it. As you said, you're selling it, and by super-offroad equipping it, you narrow your market a whole bunch. Now send those axles and such to me, and you're all set :flipoff2:

I would wonder about your market. there are a bunch of fj's out here, but I don't remember as many when I lived in NC. My brother is in cape cod looking for one, what do you want for it as is?

well, the body is in perfect shape. there was one minor rust spot on the pass. side rear but i fixed that. i just replaced the factory carb with a weber 32/36 and redid all the timing. im not sure on how many miles are on it originally. it has a set of 3 inch lift springs. yokahama golander tires on centerlines. has hard top and soft top. was thinking around $5500 obo

man i would sell it as is. get her running/driving good (if it isn't already) and it'll bring a fair amount. if you go swapping in stuff like 60's etc. you'll have more out of pocket expenses and it really won't up the value. clean it up and take it to one of the mud ralley's down there. they still have those right? put a for sale sign on it and see what she'll bring.
p.s. HOW DID YOU KNOW???? :flipoff2:
Actually you ought to keep it - sell your DD instead. I'm a big time jeep fan but the Land Cruiser is about the only other vehicle I'd want to own. BUT, if you're gonna sell it, building it for the trail almost never pays. Just do basic maintenance and cosmetic stuff so it runs and looks good then sell it as is.

MAN!!!
TRUST ME!!!!
bring that shiat to texas, you will get at least 12k for it!
no lies, yuppies are way into landcruisers down here, and all you need is alittle lift, mean tires and a clean paintjob. If you start modding it, it will go wayyyy down in value.
Seriously, don't sell it for under 10k if its as nice as you say it is.
Got any pics??

I'm gonna assume you have a really built YJ here and say keep it as a daily driver. Throw a few mods on it so you can hit a minor trail or two like some 31" all terrains and a nice paint job, etc. Those older FJ's are getting expensive. Hold on to it for a while. I'd love to have one...
