: So I got this hardtop for my father....
Jason M 12-31-2005, 12:14 PM And...
It has no provisions in the side panels for windows....
Kinda like this..

Question, has anyone cut window holes in one of these tops??
Or better, Anyone want to trade for sides that have windows??? ;)
This is what I really want

Serious One 12-31-2005, 01:24 PM Leave it.
A panelvan D-90 would be cool and is a novelty in the US of A. :D
Jason M 12-31-2005, 01:30 PM Considering I just watched my father back up his new trailer behind the 90 with the soft top on and break a taillight, I think he needs as much viewable area as possible....
;)
Personaly, I do kinda like the panelvan look...
tripm 12-31-2005, 03:58 PM Jason,
I'm not sure if the 88 and 90 tops are the same, but fixed window and sliding window sides are easy to find for 88's. (and cheap usually). I have a fixed window 88 top and the windows look like they'd be easy to put into another top. You might be able to find the gaskets and windows from RN or another supplier.
Instead of getting him a new top, why not get him a camera set up? Then he can keep the cool top.

Jason M 01-01-2006, 02:48 PM Not a bad idea actually...
Hmmmm...
kellymoe 01-01-2006, 02:54 PM I have some window sides with sliding glass sitting in my backyard. Located in Burbank. Dont know what woud be involved to make them fit but if you are interested I could cut you a good deal:D
Jason M 01-01-2006, 05:20 PM Really???
Whatcha want fer them?
aloharover 01-01-2006, 05:58 PM I am 90% sure that the 90 hardtop sides are longer then the 88 sides. I was told that the roof top panel was longer. Since the doors are the same size it only goes that the extra length is in the sides.
But I have never measured, so not sure.
Pete

$50 for both if you can arrange pick up or shipping.
Jason M 01-01-2006, 10:28 PM So those are sides for an 88???
How do the windows fit in there? I might be able to cut holes in his current sides and stuff the windows you have in there.
Dad lives in Tehachapi. So I am sure we can work something out.
but before I say absolutely, Let me talk to him.

Really, I was pretty sure they were the same length...

Jason - don't even think about that option with the series (88") windows. The only way it would work would be if you can swap the tops. The later (90/110) SW windows were a self contained window that was pop-riveted in once you cut the hole. The series windows use the side panel as a window frame, it would take a fair bit of fabricating to swap them over.
Any window that was made to be riveted to a flat section of metal would work - maybe boat windows???
PTSchram 01-02-2006, 11:22 AM Any window that was made to be riveted to a flat section of metal would work - maybe boat windows???
Maybe aftermarket van windows???
kellymoe 01-02-2006, 05:24 PM Maybe aftermarket van windows???
Maybe a heart shaped window:D I have also seen diamond and pyramid shaped windows too. Thatt would be sweeet.
Buckon37s 01-02-2006, 06:30 PM Do you have to have sliding windows? I put larger windows in my hard top that were just solid. They were I think $220 with good gaskets. Very easy to do.
Jason M 01-02-2006, 07:14 PM No they do not have to be sliding windows..
Gonna go cruise the JC Whitney catalog for the cool Teardrop shaped ones :flipoff2:
Hopefully Kellymore's sides will work for a D90.
Hopefully,
JLanigan 01-04-2006, 04:06 AM sorry but yeah, 90 sides are longer than 88's
ISUZUROVER 01-04-2006, 04:17 AM sorry but yeah, 90 sides are longer than 88's
Ah, OK, good to know.
Jason, If you really want to use the series sides, the easist way would be to get a good aluminium welder to lengthen the sides - either just before or just after the window.
But it would probably end up cheaper and easier to buy some boat windows and rivet them in, if you can't find 90 SW sides.
Jason M 05-18-2006, 08:01 PM A nice coversation with Bill At Great Basin Rovers Netted methese windows for the 90. Just about exactly what I needed for Dad's truck.. I do have one question (gonna call Bill tomorrow but am an impatient bastard)
How do they attatch???
It looks to me like I need a gasket. If I do.... where to get one??

roverhybrids 05-18-2006, 09:13 PM I cut out panels side for windows before. I would reccomend that you get genuine windows as I used aftermarket one and didn't like a few things about them, mainly they had drain holes on the inside.
Jason M 05-18-2006, 09:27 PM Not gonna spend 1K per side on windows...
Thanks tho..
roverhybrids 05-18-2006, 09:34 PM so get them used........oh you're trying:flipoff2:
Jason M 05-18-2006, 10:35 PM first off.. I'll have to cut the holes for both.. so I don't really see the difference. But what can I get them for used??
I have only found these. I have not looked super hard but still...
ISUZUROVER 05-19-2006, 03:10 AM Those windows look fine, and the drain holes are clearly visible on the outside.
The factory windows on my 110 are riveted in place, but I cannot see any rivet holes on those. Either you need a rubber, or you could just sikaflex them in place.
Jason M 05-19-2006, 08:37 AM Sikaflex?
Jason M 05-19-2006, 08:39 AM Sikaflex?

Diesel Jim 05-26-2006, 02:55 PM I fitted pattern part windows into my UK 90 hard top. i went to a dealer and measured a factory 90 Sw to get the dimensions right.
pretty much all of the pattern side windows are of the same external dimensions. you need to mark the panel out, cut with a jigsaw or an air hacksaw, then you drill lots of holes for 1/2" pop rivets, plenty of silicone sealant and away you go.
just cut through the center metal bracing bar, thats all they do on the factory models.
and the dimensions are:
