I'm trying to replace the seal on my d20+c4 in my eb. i guess it's called the input shaft/intermediate housing oil seal?

anyway here's the picture, it's the seal underneath/holding those big ass bearings in place i guess:

also, is this damage at all significant:

there were a few knicks and cuts where the c-clips were, but I'm not so sure those are going to affect it really.. hopefully not heh. you can see those if you look carefully at the first picture. There's also some scratches on the adapter housing where it meets the transmission is that going to be a problem for sealing?

thanks!

so i've been pretty girlie about it and baby'd the thing, then finally said fuck it and stopped treating it like gold, used a pitman arm puller and drilled a dimple into a piece of 1/4" plate and stuck it on top as a mounting point and pulled it off. doesn't matter anyways, i guess i still have to take it to the napa machine shop to have them press the bearing and seal back into the carrier right? unless someone out of the 100 of you that viewed this actually have a way of doing this safely and accurately. :D

not knowing the part i would say yes you need a press to remove the bearing and to install the new parts.
as if they do not just slide off then it needs to be pressed off. if it is rusted on then go the press route any how.
as for the bad sopt, what is the part doing?? does anything ride or glide on the area in question?? if not then it should not matter......much.

here is my two and one half cents worth.:)

thanks! it's the carrier for the shaft that's in the adapter housing in my d20 and c4 setup in my early bronco. as far as i can tell, nothing really contacts the surface. i figured it was superficial, just glad to hear it from someone else.
