I want to use a fuel pressure regulator on the fuel pump from my 95 YJ 4 cylinder so that I can put a TBI 350 in. This pump has a vacume regulator and it is listed as having 31 psi with the vacume line connected and 39 psi with it disconnected. I am wondering if I leave it disconnected and run a fuel pressure regulator will it work for the 350 tbi. The tbi has 9-13 psi listed as what it needs. Let me know if anyone has done this and if not where can I get a fuel pump that will work? Thanx.

a 350 with carb will run on 9-13#, but a TBI will take 30-40# pressure is not the question, rather volume !!! Will a pump built for a 4cyl. put out enough fuel for a V8 ??

Krusty:
but a TBI will take 30-40#

You sure about that man?? We had the mechanic look it up in a DVDROM manual, and it said 9-13psi. My holley Pro-jection kit runs at 15psi. If you have seen FI setups need more pressure, it was because they were using smaller injectors, like a MPI. I do agree on the volume, though. It could be a concern.

Hey Jeeper, do you know if they put different pumps in the 4cyl YJ vs. the 6cyl???

Maybe you should just do like i told you, and get a whole new Holley pump, and regulator...

Peace out - negro.

nope try Chevy TBI 5.7 9 - 15 PSI

Chevy Carb 5.7 4 to 5 PSI

your 4 cyl pump will drive it Fine I used mine for 2 years for a TBI the Excess fuel will go into the return line. use a regulator to step the fuel down to 20-25 PSI and the TBI regulator will do the rest

Run it that is what i have and it works fine no regulator

Shiat, I run a 83 Celica pump. More pressure that the tbi needs, it just runs it back to the tank. Also has way more flow than a cheby pump at WOT.

why cant I regulate it down to 9-13 psi like it says. Why should I put it at 20-25. Any reason or just what you did for yours. Wouldn't I get worse gas mileage this way or would it run rich?

I did not run a reg and mine and was Fine.

It was just an Option I should have clarified that,
I never ran a reg with the Stock 4 cyl pump for more Like three years now that I think about it

I meant to say

OR use a regulator to step the fuel down to 20-25 PSI and the TBI regulator will do the rest

basically so you feel more comfortable with pressure if you feel 35 plus is to much
the regulator is an Option

My bad!

So it wont have any effect on the way the motor runs because of the built in regulator on the motor? The fuel will just head back down the return line to the fuel tank? By the way thanks for the tips.

As others have stated (anecdotal evidence) a 4cyl YJ pump does put out enough volume.....here are the numbers:

4cyl TBI pump (87-90) 40 GPH at WO ....Airtex # 7001

4cyl MPI pump (91-present) 45 GPH at WO. ......#8229

5.7l TBI pump (the one I spec'd is for a 89) 35 GPH at WO.....#3902 (same pump for a 454 BTW)
