: Traclok disassembly
b454rat 01-01-2006, 10:29 AM Ok so I know alot of you don't like a Trashlok, but I got one for free, and will be going in the front a daily driver that really doesn't see much 4wd use, havta regear, so I figure put it in then. I got the side gears off a Dana 70 Powerlok, new for $20 both (and are 35 spline) but I never really messed with gears at all, let alone these things. Is there a link to help tear this thing apart and put it back together, or any tips or suggestions?? Gonna be getting a rebuilt kit too.
JEEPRZ 01-01-2006, 10:51 AM traclock and powerlock are two different things
78bronco460 01-01-2006, 11:20 AM If you price out the frictions/steels/internals kit compared to an assembled unit there isn't that much difference. If you want to do it yourself you'll need a couple extra spider gears, a 1/2" x 12" drawbolt with hardened washers and nuts, and a big C clamp. Have fun.
b454rat 01-01-2006, 11:28 AM Well so far I only have just the $20 into for the side gears. I thought about getting something else, but for $400 or so, I don't need a traction device in the front that bad, the reason I wanted to use this. I know that Tracklok and Powerlok are two differnet things, but Dana 60 rears use 30 spline, and dana 60 fronts are 35, the same as a Dana 70 rear(most). If take D70 Powrlok side gears, they will work in a D60 Traclok carrier, so you can run it in the front 60 with 35 splines.
78bronco460 01-01-2006, 12:17 PM Here's a place to look before you start stuffing money into rebuilding a tracloc:

I am not 100% sure you can use PowerLok side gears in a tracloc, not having both in front of me right now. I do recall them using different spiders.
b454rat 01-01-2006, 02:31 PM That isn't too bad a price, but i know that I can convert this over for much less. I read it somewhere, and can't remember for the life of me. It talked about finding a relatively easy to find Dana 60 T/L, and taking the spiders from a D70 P/L, and just swapping them out. I know it doesn't mean shit, but the two gears look identical. I think I figured out how to tear it apart, so I'll give it a try. If it doesn't work, I could probly return the parts, if not then I'm only out $20.
b454rat 01-01-2006, 02:59 PM I did some checking onliine, and there are two differents numbers for the side gears. They are different, at least by numbers. I will order a set of the spiders for a 35 spl. tracklok and compare them. I found 2 Dana 70 powrloks in the junkyard this weekend, and one has 4:88s, but sure it's not 35 spline. Anybody want a Dana 70 powrlok for 35 spline??

I'd be interested in the D70 powerlock and gears.
b454rat 01-01-2006, 03:08 PM I know a buddy bought one with 4:56s and Powerlok, but we looked at a dually rear first, and couldn't fugure out what gears it had. IIRC one axle was gone, and didn't have the right tools to get the other out, but I think it was a late 60s rear, so almost positive not 35s. Also found a 70 with 5:13, but not sure if it's open or not, and that had 16 splines I think. I can see how much I can get it for. What is a fair price??
420willys 01-02-2006, 03:01 PM i cant offer a ton of info but i remember reading in fourwheeler a few's back that you can swap the 60 30 spline side gears for the dana 70's without any problems, they where saying the only hard part is finding them, looks like you got that covered, good luck with swap and post up what you find out, jason.
b454rat 01-02-2006, 04:06 PM Ah, maybe thats where I read it. If the Dana 70 P/L gears are the right ones, they are only like $10 each I think, not very much. But as I put in the other post, the side gears are different according to the Dana Expert. I have two T/Ls, one 30 and the other 35, and the D70 P/L gears, so I will compare them and see what is what.
420willys 01-02-2006, 08:34 PM do you have a link for those side gears, thanks jason.

i hope the link helps i new i saw this some where, jason.
b454rat 01-03-2006, 02:36 PM I think that link is where I read it. But it says Dana 60 P/L, not T/L. I would rather have a P/L, but I can't find one. I looked in the Dana expert, and couldn't find one truck that used it, mostly T/L and a No spin. The number is 35294 for the D70 P/L side gears.
Plumbloco 02-09-2006, 04:41 PM I've got 4 complete D70 Powerloks with 35 spline side gears/ new Lim. Slip
inner gears and clutch/disc plates/ crossbars/spiders etc. They are 2 piece carriers for 4.56 and up. Thet have 6.17 ring gears on them now. Anybody intrested?
s1037s 02-10-2006, 01:02 PM wish i had some dough. What kind of price?
