Well nobody at jeepsunlimited could help me, surprised?

Here is the problem....IF you have read my other post you know I am getting a cherokee 44 to put in my flattie...Problem is Both the front and rear dana 44 axle ID tags are shot...I cant take it apart seeing it is not yet mine. I can jack it up and do the whole spin the tire thing. My qusetion is what gear ratio's might it be...I may have a hard time telling the differecne between lets say 3.54 and maybe 3.31...IT may be obvious, I dont know, never done it.

Its a 1979 cherokee Q-track
360 under the hood.

Hope that helps

You're buying an axle without even glancing at the gears inside?

I'm sure the seller would understand you wanting to see the condition of the gears - the ratio is stamped right on there, well, you might have to do a bit of math, but the tooth count is there.

YEah, I know

Thing is I have not bought it yet and I need some other things on it..new steering box for one. The 360 is still strong...nice tires. and so on...300 bones to drive it away.

tell him to pull the diff covers, or you do it wehn you get there, and the last 2 sets of numbers i think will tell you the ratio,
big number=ring gear
smaller number=pinion
then divide and get your answer

Ok... I guess that makes up for a lot.

I picked up a low milage (36000) 79 SJ that had rusted to shiznit for 500. Sold the pristine interior for $400, the xfer for $75, and some other misc parts for a few more bucks. Paid a guy $40 to haul away the rest (axles, new steering linkages, steering box, etc).

I literally couldn't give the axles away. :(
