I'm installing '83 Toy rear springs on my Samurai. If I run them in the same direction they came out of the truck, then my Shackles will stick pretty far out the back. Can I turn them around eventhough the pin is not in the center? That way, I can move the front spring perch forward and keep the back of the springs under the body. Also, should I remove one or both of the straight leafs on the bottom of the stack? These are 5 leaf packs and i'm worried it might be a little stiff. I am installing this on a hard top model though, so it is a bit heavier than a soft top. I'll check back in 15 minutes, thanks a lot!

Please, somebody! Will the springs still work if they are reversed, or will it be a harsh ride? Any help out there?

I'm not sure I can help but here goes if the springs are so long that they stick out past the truck you have to move the hangers in anyway so why turn the springs around unless by doing so you get better offset on the axle personally I run Yj springs 5 pack and I have them turned around that is my shackele are on the side that use to go to the frame hanger and have had no Ill problems this way. as far as how many leafs to pull just get rid of the overload spring for now if its to stiff aint nothing to pull another one out later hope its some help

Thanks Scott! If I ran the springs forward enough to clear the back, then the axle would be way too far forward in the wheel well. The only other option is to re-drill the locating pin, but I've never done that. It sounds like it works on your YJ springs so it should work on these. Which leaf is the overload? I was also thinking the springs had to be mounted in the same direction they came off because of spring wrap, how are your springs holding up? Is your locating pin in the center, if not, is the longer end toward the front or back? Thanks again.

You should be able to turn the springs around without any problems. The overload spring is the thick leaf on the bottom, remove it. I just put a set of toy ifs springs in the frent of a sami, turned around backwards, without the overload. I did a shackle reversal on it too. I ahven't driven it yet, but don't expect any problems.

Okay, I turned the springs around but the front is way up near the body, and the back, although it doesn't stick out anymore, is hanging pretty low. If I cut the spring pad off the axle and rotated it, that might put the spring ends in the right place and give me the desired pinion angle. Is that the right way to do this, or does it not matter much?
