: Tbi To Carb Swap Help Needed

I HAVE A 95 TAHOE 4x4 THAT HAS BEEN DRIVING ME CRAZY FOR SOME TIME NOW AND I WANT TO SWAP TO A MOTOR WITH A CARB. I AM GOING TO PUT A 475 HORSE 383 STROKER WITH A EDELBROCK PERFORMER SERIES 750CFM CARB IN AND HAVE BEEN TRYING FOREVER TO FIND SOMEONE WITH EXACT DETAILS AS FAR AS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO AND WHAT PARTS ARE NEEDED. I MANAGED TO SQUEEZE SOME INFO FROM A TECH AT A CERTAIN MAIL ORDER RACING PARTS SUPPLIER BUT NOT EXACTLY WHAT ALL HAS TO HAPPEN. I KNOW I NEED A BYPASS REGULATOR(HLY-12-803-BP), TCI TRANS CONTROLLER(TCI-377000)FOR THE 4L60E, AND A MSD DISTRIBUTOR(MSD-8361)TO WORK WITH MY MSD DIGITAL-6PLUS IGNITION BOX. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COMPUTER(THROW IT IN THE TRASH?)? WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE HARNESS? DO I USE THE HARNESS TO PLUG INTO ALL THE SENSORS SO THE DASH READS THEM OR DO I NEED SOME SPECIAL HARNESS? ANYONE WHO HAS DONE IT OR CAN POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF SOMEONE WHO IS SMART ON THIS PLEASE HELP!!!!

Depending on where you live it will be illegal to drive on the street. Cause your putting a carb on it. I would check into before the swap if you get pulled over it will be a ticket or they may tow it!

definately make sure you don't want to drive it on the street anymore and if you do chack local laws. some areas in the country don't plug into the computer anymore but they still make sure it has all its OEM emissions equipment. but unless you plan on change to new guages like AUTOMETERS or another brand you will have to keep your computer. you don't need all of your harness but you may want some of it depending on what you plan to do with your guages. you can scrap your harness but if you plan to keep your 4L60E you will have to keep some of it and you computers. honestly, put your carb motor in it and change you trans to a turbo 400 and put autometer guages in it and save yourself a lot of time, money and headaches. good luck

Not Concerned About Emissions So That Wont Be A Problem. Thanks For The Info Thus Far, But I Am Still Looking For More Exacting Details On The Swap. Anyone Who Has Actually Done This I Would Appreciate The Pointers And Steps Necessary For Completion. Thanks In Advance Again To All.

do you realize you are yelling? What is the problem with the tahoe that you want to ditch a computer controlling everything? upgrade you inlet system and flash the computer and be happy. never seen a manual choke on a 95 tahoe:laughing:

SORRY ABOUT THE YELLING! TBI SUCKS IS THE PROBLEM. you cant possibly make any REAL power with tbi. i want 450 or so horsepower under the hood of this monster. I talked to my engine builder and i will actually be running the Holley 770cfm Truck Avenger carb with electric choke. I understand that carbs can never have the response of EFI but trust me my TBI has always had a stumble problem and have spent thousands trying to get it up in horsepower and eliminate the off idle stumble. The end prognosis is that A: the chip needed to be custom burned AGAIN by a good tuner for all that had been done to it and B: the computer just took a shit. So after 3 years and lots of money I have decided to make horsepower with this the good old fashioned way. CARB IT. I know SFI is the BEST cuz I have a 490HP/472TQ LT1 Camaro I built that is freekin fast, responsive, and gets about 21mpg on the highway! The reason simply is carb is cheaper and a surefire way to get the power i want out this Tahoe. So if anyones lookin for a fresh (rebuilt less that 10,000 miles ago) 97 vortec .040 over shortblock with COMP cam, flexplate, timing chain/cover and harmonic balancer I am selling mine for cheap ($1000) cuz I'm droppin a 383 STROKER in! The VORTEC heads are for sale($250), the EDELBROCK performer intake #2116 ($120) and Holley 670cfm Throttle Body ($250). Im in KY/TN area. cellphone # (931) 302-1215 or email me if interested. you can the same responsiveness from a carb, but it'll cost ya time and pieces. Whay not get a tpi conversion or high ram fi conversion? edelbrock offers something that would just about be perfect fo ryour truck: multipoint changeover kit

I agree that EDELBROCK PRO-FLO is a great swap over and is capable of high horsepower, but the cost difference is what sells me on the carb. Carb swap over with TCI xmsn controller=$1600, PRO-FLO with TCI controller=$3000
