i have greasable bushes, and have fixed the springs, and opened up the clips, and its, binding in the bushes, without cutting the bushes is there other ways of getting more flex?

i can lift a wheel approximately 750mm, with a wheelbase around 100"

but i see guys here, with INSANE flex, sorta makes mine pretty lame looking

any hints?
or secrets?

i heard something about stopping the binding on the fixed end of the spring??

but how to do it?

(i dont want to go to an elliptical setup! or coilovers, or double shackles)

Help this Yank out. What do you mean cut the bushes?

i think he means trim the grass, so he can see his rig better?:flipoff2:

oh, i can see it fairly well over the grass, and it helps that its bright yellow, nah ignore the bush thing....just tell me what to do to get MORE flex from normal leafs, that are fixed one end and shackled the other (dont want to go into any double shackles or ellipticals...for my own reasons)

(as the picture obviously shows, i have no troubles at all finding this thing in the long grass even if it was small as it has quite a bark, and id be able to hear it) :flipoff2: :emb:

Bushes = Spring bushings...........

Hey BJ42, AOR has what you need.......... orbit eye springs

The other thing I have tried is to run poly bushings and cut them to an hourglas shape on the lathe..kinda like --lOl--

can't afford orbit yet, and probly won't spend that money anyways, cutting to an hourglass, does this reduce on-road handling at all?
and does it affect the life of the bush greatly?

(i had a friend try to modify his bushes for soemthing and he ended up having to replace them after one time fourbying)

Here's how you you stop the binding:

And, if you have leaf springs, you have some sort of elliptical setup. Standard springs are half elliptic. I assume you are talking about not going to quarter elliptic. Have you thought about 3/4 elliptic? Why are you against 1/4's?

You might ask Wilson from this board, or search. He uses a lateral pivot shackle that seems pretty trick.

dont want 3/4 or 1/4

want to maximise my existing setup before changing it

see that yellow trucks flex, (i saw it in a magazine) its pretty amazing

no strange suspension or anything wild

It's simply a matter of the springs you're using... Nice compliant springs is ALL it takes... No smoke & mirrors... No cutting edge technology... If you're dead set on not trying a "new" set of springs... Experiment with yours... Remove a leaf or two. It looks like your rig can sacrifice a little height. Go to the junk yard and find some pliable springs that contain some leaves you can use in your pack... Messing with bushings, etc. will net you SOME gains in travel... BUT getting the PACK to work FIRST is where you'll see the greatest difference... HANDS DOWN. Good luck and "Nice rig".

What is your shackle angle? Also what kind of bushings are you using? Rubber or Poly bushings?

I have a couple of questions as well......
Does AOR make orbit eyes for applications other than Yota's?(my ISP wont allow me on yota sites:confused: )

What is the best usable shackle angle? (50*/45*/30*)Specifically for the rear.

Nice ride bj42

*what do you actually mean by "fixed"?

without cutting the bushes is there other ways of getting more flex?

*put big washers on either side of the shackles/hangers etc. (so the bolt heads and ends of the nuts don't gouge the shackles /n stuff) and loosen all the bolts until they are sloppy.
just tighten them back up for the drive home.

*are your bushes poly or rubber? rubber flexes much better.

i can lift a wheel approximately 750mm, with a wheelbase around 100"

*you're totally positive that your shocks aren't limiting in any way?

but i see guys here, with INSANE flex, sorta makes mine pretty lame looking

*you are limiting your flex to "sane" BECAUSE you don't want elliptical setups, coilovers, drop link shackles, orbit eye inserts, etc. that's why these guys are sooo flexy.

but how to do it?*---->see the above "self limiting" comment, and start considering becoming a MAD BASTARD heehee.

:flipoff2:

edit-duh:rasta: you said "greasable bushes" so i take back the are your bushes poly or rubber? question and just state the "i think rubber flexes better" reply.

i am using urethane (poly) bushes that have been grooved to allow for grease flow (and have greasable pins)

my shackle angles on the front are 45 degrees and on the rear is 60 degrees

got any answers for me now?

i have proper greasable pins and not bolts, these have washers, but must remain tight (im forgetful, and well, ya know)

ummm my rig has 4 leaves in the front each 10mm thick (standard cruiser has 7)

the rear has 6 (only removed one leaf)

shocks won't limit travel as i run rancho 9012s, which are layed over in the rear, i WISH i could max them out, that is what i am trying to acheive

cosider becoming a "mad bastard" is WAYYYY to late, i was born mad, but i need to drive the car to and from work every day (past a police station) although its only about 5kms, each way, i get up to 100kmh, and mostly they stare at my rig open mouthed in wonder (spring overs and some other mods are frowned upon, bigger than stock tyres) and are actually banned......

okay, im replacing all 4 spring packs in the next few weeks, and was wondering what to do to them, i have some new spring packs, longer...softer and flatter.........(although currently ive destroyed the ones on the rig..they have inverted( :( its a lot lower than that

rckratz...thanx mate, i used to have bone stock toyota, but i built this whole thing myself and when i said stuff, people though, this tool has no idea, he drives a bone stock toyota, but its anything but stock, and ive only listed about an eigth of the mods (as youse know, it gets to a oint where you cant list them)

well change to RUBBER bushings, i assume you are sprung over, and try to find the longest flatest springs you can fit under your truck if you want to flex. For minis toyota rears up front and 63" chevys in the rear seam to be the ticket.
