Has anybody tried or accomplishished swaping a manual 5 or 6 speed manual in a 00 or later Excursion 7.3 PSD. Tring to get away from the shitty auto. :D Is'nt it roughly a F250 chassis minus the way the rear leaf spring hangers are mounted.

Haven't done it, but there should be not reason why it couldn't be done. Now have you been to thedieselstop.com? There are a couple of options when building a phenominal auto. The top dog appears to be a guy in Arkansas named Brian. He runs Brian's Truck Stop or is it Shop? Anyway, he can build the tranny of your dreams and he has a no power, no use warranty, meaning if it breaks, no matter what you are doing to it, he will fix it. Might actually be cheaper/easier to keep the auto. However, I did buy my f350 with the 6spd for a reason.

for you it'll be a bolt in deal an involved one though
I would only go w/ the 6 speed. if you're 4wd you're going to need the t-case as well.
I've considered the same thing in my truck and came to the conclusion that the known expenses of the 6 speed swap were going to cost me aproximately what a quality rebuild will run me.
1k for clutch/flywheel package luk or southbend solid mass flywheel
1500 on the trans
500 t-case
figure 500 on the pedal assy, clutch master & slave
another 100 if you need to buy shifters & boots.
then you've got driveshaft issues and a crossmember.

I wish they just would have came that way from the factory. Would be really cool in my opinion. You are correct in it being the same as a superduty pickup. With a donor truck, it would be "bolt in"

I went through the trials of the damned with my Excursion Auto. The biggest problem after installing a Suncoast tranny and 2 different versions of their torque converter was the computer. It was almost impossible to get the right shift strategy out of the computer regardless of who's chip I tried to use. The TC wouldn't go to lock up until 45+ mph and it came on soft. If I could have just swapped in an F350 computer/chip it would have been great, but was told because of the passenger oriented management of both the engine and tranny would fight me the whole way if I attemtped a full on computer swap. If I could have done a 6spd manual swap I would have,......but again there were way too many variables. My ultimate Excursion would be with a CTD inline 6 with 6speed tranny 4x4 on 35's and some real axles. That would tow my 10K trailer through the mountains with ease and be better on the highway then my dodge dually.

I guess my F350 with 6-spd, 7.3L, D60 front, D80 rear, (but no lift no tire) is not too far off from you ideal... :D

Look on the diesel stop. I remember seeing there one time that the floorpans were different on trucks, auto vs. manual. So it was easy to go one way, but not the other due to clearance issues. But I cant remember which way it was.

talk to the ford cummins guys and there is another shop in MT also that does engine swaps on Fords and they may be able to tell you what tranny will work and how hard the wiring is, etc. cant be as hard as putting another complete engine and tranny in and making it all work with the rest of the factory harness that remains in the vehicle.?? .02
