What's your experience with lockers on snow & ice?

I have a detroit in the rear and an ez-locker in the front. It was a little squirrely last weekend in Tahoe and I was pretty nervous whenever I was driving on ice.

This vehicle will see Hwy 80 to Tahoe a lot this winter, so I am seriously considering pulling the lockers out and running open diffs.

Is that the best plan?

Thanks in advance,
Phil

im welded in the rear and open in the front for now running 36"radial tsl's and dont have any trouble. im not running on the highway very much though. dd i dont think i would like a welded rear but a detroit i wouldnt be afraid of.

There was a couple times where I could feel all 4 tires slipping at the same time  I know that fully locked on slippery sidehill surfaces is dangerous, hence my thinking to pull the lockers.

I Live in Lake Tahoe I have a lincoln in the rear and a detroit EZ in the front of my 78 fj40 You cannot control your rig on Ice it likes to track and pull to the right, it is killer for parking lot 360's though! I would pull them if you drive over 25-30mph even in 2wd your rear wants to spin out

would AT's help enough to notice?

All-Terrains?

The vehicle has BFG Muds on it now. I did drop the tire pressure to about 25lbs and that helped a bit.

Any others with experience?

Thanks,
Phil

Put some studs in the tires and you'll be happy.

I would yank them if you have the option

I've never had lockers on my rig and I been able to keep up just fine. there have been a couple of spots that would have been nice to have them but it wasn't that bad.

I would pull them and save up for ARB's. If you were scared when you were driving it, you will never fill confortable until you pull them out.

Precisely!

I have a spare 3rd for the rear that needs gears and bearings. That goes to the shop tomorrow. They also have a used open carrier for the front.

I'll keep the lockers for the spring and put them back in then.

Thanks for the replies.
