Have a friend asking me 'S about the BEST axle conversion for a zuk.:D

ALL OPINIONS ARE WELCOME to the 3 questions i have. Questions on the new hybrid axles from spidertrex or one from trail tough, Yoda axle (toyota axles),And Dana 44.

1) do u think it is worth the money to build and put these new hybrid axles into a zuki. how easy would it be to find parts for the axle:question:

2) Two part ? [ modified axles meaning long field shafts/ replacement u joints ctm]
A) what's the max size tires u would run on a yoda axle{bone stock & mod axles}
B) What's the max size tires u would run on a dana 44 axle {bone stock & mod Axles}

3) What axle would you put into you zuki {new hybrid , yoda, dana 44} if you had an extra $$$$ sitting around to spend on axles, And y would you put that particular axle into you zuki .

( all these information would be helpful for a friend who has "NO IDEA" in building zuki's ) :rasta:

Hybrids are awsome when you combine all the good features of some of choice axles, however the cost of a hybrid is usally high. Alot of times more than what the Zuk is even worth.

Longs birfs are awsome! and Jacks's CTM's are unbreakable, but I haven't seen Toy Birf or 44's u-joints to be a real issue for Zuks.

A) I know you can run 38's on Toy axles.
B) I know you can run 38's on 44's

I would go with the Toy's if you want easy.
44's if you wanted the width
Hybrids if you have the cash.

1. no

2.yes and no. if he is running the stock 1.3 then i'd run stock toy bif's or stock d44 shafts and joints. if he has the $$$ or has a problem breaking the stock stuff then go for the long's or the warn/ctm combo. max tire size would be in the 36-38" range for either with a sai motor. i have two buddys running 36 sx's on waggy d44's and without trouble thus far. one has a 1.3 and the other a 1.6.

3. waggy d44's. why cause i have put a set in one for a buddy and as i stated i have another buddy running the same setup. both run waggy 44's, 36x12.50 sx's and wrangler springs. they work really well and you can beat the crap out of them and not worry about breakage. i like the offset rear that matches the sami t-case and also the width is another plus over the toys. waggy d44's can usually be had for cheap too. either the toy's or the waggy axles make a good swap but my personal vote goes for waggy d44's.

What type of hybrid are you talking about and how much is it? I know the All-pro Hybrids are fawking Awsome but they have the price tag to go with it.:)

I put an Allpro 44 hybrid in the front of my zuk. I only bought the housing and inner shafts from Allpro, and I bought it on sale. I scored a hi-pinion with bad bearings for $50. I also got Gucci knuckles from Parts Mike. Got the rest out of a bone yard. My buddy Mike set it up. It probably cost around $1700 hub-hub with locker and all.

Pricey but the axle has the best of all worlds for my usage. Good pumpkin clearance, good width, dshaft is out of harms way, ujoints angles are happy, 297s, and killer turning. It was a LOT more than a boneyard waggy setup, but it was a LOT less than a similar setup from Currie or Dynatrac etc. The rear IFS axle was really cheap to put together.

Both of my "high end" zuk axles cost way less than what people are spending for one axle on the other boards on of this bbs. F and R custom 60s = 6-10k!!

I would def stay away from highbrids....Too hard to get parts for them! Toy, Chevy, or Waggy stuff....You can get at Napa or something....

For the least expensive swap i would go Toys......There is a chance you would break a Birf....But not likely

If you wanted to go all out, and you wanted to go big and wide....D44's!! Chevy housing for the front, Waggy housing for the rear! ~62-63" wide WMS to WMS and with 37's im 78" from outside of tire to outside of tire!!!
For less than 5k you can build a set of D44's, with all of the goodies to go along with it!

I'll chime in on the 44 side too. I think they are a little cheaper to buy and build, and a little stronger. The extra turning radius is cool too. Plus if you want 5,6, or 8 lug its as simple as swapping knuckles out, and redrilling the rear...

I'll stick to my opinion in your first post about this, I'd do toys, a bit lighter, easier swap, drop-out 3rd member, e-lockers available, and slightly more clearance than a D44. :D

Just a point of clarification from above.

Full size (width) d44's from a chevy are 67" WMS to WMS the rear is usually 65". If it doesn't see street duty than it is cool but a sam body is 53" leaving 14" of diff sticking out (7" on each side). How do I know? I was going to do it ('cept with a fullfloating 60 out back) but then decided for my purposes the scout II width (60.25" Front and 58.75" rear) was a better option.

I'd agree with Rude on his point about parts availability and sticking with "stock" (for the donor application) stuff vs. a hybird setup. Though the hybird set up are supposed to be manufactured not to break... Murphy's law says it will happen and you can berak anything depending how hard you try.

I have 44's under my truck, in hindsight if I wanted less of a challenge (giving me more time to wheel) I'd put in yoda stuff. "Because I can" always seems to put me in the challenge category.

Dumb, i didnt say that the chevy housing was 62 or 63.....But a waggy front axle is set up spring under.....Take a chevy housing and cut it down on oneside to match the rear.....chevy is setup for SPOA....

hybrid axles i am talking about is the side kick/ dana 44 axles from spidertrex and from trail tough.

I would def stay away from highbrids....Too hard to get parts for them!

The only part that is prone to failure in my "hybrid" that is truly custom is the inner axles, which are just resplined chevy axles. The rest is a weird combo of common stuff. The spindles on out are just d44/Chevy 10 bolt, nothing hard to find about that, probably the most common "outers" on the planet. The drop-out is oem toy, with a detroit, nothing hard to get there either. Ball joints and u-jpoints are 1/2 tone dana spicer, again EASY to get.

For less than 5k you can build a set of D44's, with all of the goodies to go along with it!

I'm currently building a sammi for my room mate:
-wide track waggy axles (65"wms to wms, front) (61.5" back)
-My time is free (lucky him) total buildup cost less than 4k and includes:

-purchase price
-alxes
-5.89's
-spool
-lockrite & new slow carrier
-calmini 4:1
-35x12.50 BFG's w/steel wheels (thanks Jess!!!!)
-High angle d lines F/R
-clutch
-toy ifs rear springs (thanks dirtbag711!!!!!)
-wrangler rear springs
-saginaw power steering
-bling bling OD green paint job

-My work inludes putitng everything together and all of the fab work. I lengthend the frame 10" in front and 2" in rear, outbaorded frame in front, power steering conversion, double shackle in rear, etc..

The point of all of this is, that sami's are cheap to build, that's why he got one and they're lite weight and can take a beating. I would find it hard to spend the $$ on hybrid axles, when either toy or D44 axles are cheap and still abundant. Pics will be up next week, hopefully

I have to say this posting has help a lot, in the opinion on what axles is best for you to put in a sami. like fatkid mentioned in his post:D

Thanx u for posting
