: Drive Line Conversion
lonerover 01-03-2006, 06:39 PM I m looking for the best option for replacing the flex disk in the rear drive line of my 97 disco. I have talked to a online sales guy he says for me to order the double u joint in the rear single in the fromt drive line converision for a 98 disco2 and the adapter for the pinion. which i still have to get the shaft custom made. all for around 350-400. I am going to lift this thing prolly 3' at some point this year. The reason i am interested now is mine is getting good and cracked(out like me after reading therad after thread!) ive found the replacement rubber is about 110 avg. ive had no luck searching on here. just wondering if there is an easier road. thanks
64rovr 01-03-2006, 07:46 PM You need a 24 spline pinion flange from the rear of a Defender 90 (simplest to order since they all have the required part through all US years) and a Range Rover Classic rear driveshaft. I am not exactly sure of the years of the rear shafts that will work, but I know that 87-88 will work because they have the LT230 tbox. I believe that the later Borg-Warner rear shafts are the same length, but I am not sure enough to feel confident telling you that you should buy one and that it would work.
lonerover 01-03-2006, 07:51 PM nice ill look in to that ty

Let us all know how that 3 foot lift goes -- and show pics! :flipoff2:
PTSchram 01-04-2006, 05:46 AM OMG!
You need a SWB RRC driveshaft (if you're going used). When you order the flange, be sure to ask if it requires the spacer as some do and some don't.
Some folks have a hard time getting the centering peg out. If you don't have the correct tool, OR an impact, expect trouble.
Ignore what the online sales guy said-based upon your somewhat incoherent post, it sounds like one of you doesn't have a clue as to what's needed, nor how to do it. The pricing you described would be enough to set you up with nice double cardon shop-built driveshafts. Even OEM stuff bought from the dealer wouldn't cost that much.
(Where's Pendy when we need him?) Now, go read the newbie check-in before posting again.

lonerover 01-04-2006, 10:49 AM ha that is funny i have done a lot of const work too hmm....
so thats why that roof didnt fit lol.. well thanks for input.
64rovr 01-04-2006, 10:58 AM this is a list of all the parts that you need. There is no reason why you couldnt find the $300 driveshaft used for probably $50 or so. But it is a good starting point as far as a shopping list.
1 FRC8387 DRIVESHAFT - REAR - SWB $299.95
2 STC3722 DIFFERENTIAL FLANGE KIT (4 BOLT) $82.95
3 539745 DIFFERENTIAL SPACER $11.95
4 1389 SELF LOCKING NUT (8) $8.72
5 2910 BOLT - FRONT PROP SHAFT (4) $4.36

jpenrose 01-05-2006, 12:23 PM i need to check if i still have it in the attic, but i may have the driveshaft you need.
64rovr 01-05-2006, 12:26 PM '95 RRC driveshaft may be the same rubber coupling as that model year really shares more with a Discovery than any earlier Range Rover. I am 90% i have a '89 RRC driveshaft as well as two new u-joints I could install in it if anybody requires it.
Johnny5 01-05-2006, 12:45 PM 87-88 and 89-92 will fit. Like PT said, some require the spacer and some don't. Getting the peg out is a b$itch but you can make your own tool for under 20 bucks. I got myself a Pully Puller Installer Kit (http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3653414/1134453712066_DSCN4953.JPG) from AutoZone.

BAH! Use your hub nut socket, a washer and an 8*1.25 bolt. Hit that bolt with an impact and they pop right out!
Johnny5 01-05-2006, 01:07 PM what's an impact gun????? In the NE we don't use electric tools.. :flipoff2:

Funny, I only keep bodies in my attic.

They keep better in the basement.

The 95 RRC does in fact have the rubber coupling, I own one.
While we are on the subject, is there a good place to purchase rover drive line components such as yokes and double-cardigans(sp?)? I have a friend that works in a drive line shop and would be able to build my shafts but he isn't sure where to get the parts from.

Sorry, I had to do it.
Ok, same question but for a DII. What is it I need to get rid of the rotoflex? Same thing?
