Alright guys I'm doing a Cj-7 project just like everyone else and their mother but I need a little advice cause im not finding to much with the search.

So as it says in my sig im looking for soemthing that will mate up to, or have an adaptor for my th400.

My budget on this is about 1100. Im looking for something with a 4:1 ratio, dont really care which side drop.

Hoping not to get too long cause im gonna need the d-shaft length in the back.

P.S. I know that the word Budget should never be used when talking about jeeps but I need something to aim for.

I say go with the D300. If you do the rebuild and install work your self you will be at your budget.

staying in your budget I would also say go with the Dana 300.

from what you are saying, (4 to 1 and not to long) im sure you have already thought about the 300.

To keep it cheap run a passenger drop axel like a chevy and you wont have to spend money on a flip kit.

Find a 300 in decent shape for 250 or 300 bucks and add the gears and shafts and build your own twin stick. This I think will aslo be your shortest combo.

Yup, I agree. A working D300 is about $250, the LoMax 4:1 gears are about $700.
That's half the cost of an Atlas II. The D300 will easily stand up to a mild
360 V8, especially behind the TH400.
The adapter from the TH400 to D300 is $429 from Novak. It's only 1.4" long.

clock your 300 while it is still out. you might put a few more bucks into the crossmember but you will be happy when your not dragging your ass on the rocks.

As long as he is easy on it, it might hold up.

stock 300 outputs don't last long behind a V8 and 4.1 kit.

Hell, I broke a 300 with a 6 cylinder.

He can always do the HD 32 spline input and output upgrades.

* HD 32 spline FRONT output shaft kit - $175.00
* HD 32 spline REAR output shaft kit with parking brake provision - $390.00

Even with those added in the D300 is still cheaper.

I broke my 300's rear output with a TBI 350, stock t/c gears, and 36 in SX's. But I was being stupid hard on it.

I still think with the budget being considered, the 300 is probably the best route for dude to take. Just make sure to pony up for the 32 spline rear output while you are swapping low range gears and it should hold up just fine.

thanks for the suggestions. Yeah the 300 was looking like the way to go. I'll look into clocking it but right now i just want to get everything together so it works. i dont want it to be under the knife for years so Im keeping it simple.

So I'm looking at $300 for the D300, then another $700? for the 4:1, and how much is an adapter, cant afford the 1.4" novak lol.

If anybody has a spare 300 laying around send me a PM i might just take it off your hands.

I saw Lo-max for $525 the other day, that might help your budget if you shop around. I would definitely go with the 32 spline big output if you're running a V8, or you'll break it.
