I am looking at a 89 GMC Heavy half ton(six lugger with a 14SF rear).... The front needs bearings where the CV shaft enter the carrier housing and a CV boot. The truck has about 140K on it..

Are SAS(Straight Axle Swaps) that hard? Anyone do one on a similar truck and can offer advise and any problems you ran inot? I would put a D44 from a Ford under it for now...
I know ORU makes a kit for this, but I dont want to spend the money and I bet they want a pretty penny for it..

Any advise????

BTW, it has a lift on it now.. It is either a Superlift kit or an Explorer.... About 4-6".. What size front leafs could I use to equal the rear lift? 2.5"? The truck is riding on 35's...

Thanks!

Well, I bet if you searched in the Chevy area for "SAS" you might find some info...in fact, I think that there might be an 89 Chevy SAS in there....

I was told that with some SAS the IFS frame is bent different and when you put normal leafs under them, they actually have more lift do to the different frame...
Just wondering if these truck were the same...

Yep...the ORU kit says that it adds 2"...so a 4" spring up front would be equivalent to a 6" lift...

BTW...check out the "WWW" link below for SAS pics...
