I am trying to disassemble my 5 speed ZF tranny. It came from a wreck and it is jammed in 4th gear. I have removed all the rear bolts and allen bolts on the sides. I think that I also have to remove the detent balls for the shift rails to take the guts out of the tranny. Anyone have any idea how to take these out or if they need to come out? The kind of look like plugs, but I see no way of unscrewing them if they are threaded. Are they just pressed in and if so what is the best way to remove them.

I am putting this int a 76 bronco, but I will need a new rear housing because this was broken in the wreck. Hopefully the mainshaft is OK. Cant get it apart to see what parts I need.

I remove those plugs with a small slide hammer type seal puller. They are made just like freeze plugs.
Be sure to remove rear yolk before slipping case apart, then stand trans on tail housing slide front section with bellhousing up it may require some persuation with heavy rubber mallet.
