Im looking at buying a 68 404 here locally to use around the farm and for a wheelin rig. I've done quite a bit of research on Mogs and i think this one is a good deal, but i would like to get you guys input on what or any particular things to look for before buying it. Its got relatively new 39.5" IROKs, new drums and shoes on ft. and rear, and hes asking $3500, however it think i can get it for $2500-$3000. Also how feasable is it to use a Mog as a wheelin vehicle driving to and from the trails? i know its slow, but other than that are they dependable enough to run on the road for long distances?
also they look fairly simple to work on, but again i've never worked on one how would you guys classify them from a difficulty level to maintain? Keep in mind i've built several custom Jeeps. here are couple of pics of it.

thanks
lincoln

Are those power steering hoses I see behind the grill? If so that helps with the worst thing about a Mog in the woods.
I believe highway miles are best done on a trailer behind a nice tow rig.
People do drive them there, but why wear out such a good trail vehicle on the stinkin' road.
Price seems good(dammit,Mogs ain't worth shit these days)'specially with the Iroks

Build yourself some kinda cage, even if you just mount it to the floor of the cab it'll save you in a tipover(it'd be as safe as a stock TJ:rolleyes: )

im going to look at it and drive it on sunday, so ill let you guys know. i spent 30mins on the phone with him last night and it sounds like its in pretty good condition. He said that it had a whine in 5th gear, but shifts smoothly, is this common?

also the trans leaks from the back and runs down into the axle where he drains it and puts it back into the trans when nessesary. he says its an easy fix with a new seal, what do you guys think?
