It's here on the forum, but after searching I couldn't find much information from this forum member...

Thanks for the help...

I saw that one. Sounds like a decent deal to me, especially since it is fuel injected and has the GRS2. Sounds like he'd be willing to take quite a hit on the price, too. Good luck. ~Steve

OK, explain the rust thing...it doesn't look way rusted out...

At least it's got gears. There was one a while back, advertised as a "crawler" with all stock gearing  , I think the guy meant "freeway crawler". That's a decent price IMO, sell the Thornbirds, buy some real tires tho.

I agree - it probably isn't rusted out
but being from Pennsylv., I would expect it to have a good start of cancer under the flairs & rocker covers. This may or may not be an issue for you.

While I agree that the GRS II and the fuel injection are VERY attractive options, I might point out those front shackles - I'd have to see more of it (up close, too) it to make an educated call.

See that snorkel? That raises other questions.

Also, no lockers & SJ410 backing plate conversion on the rear axle -

I would read these clues to mean this has likely been a mud-machine. Still might be a good buy - check the diff's & t-case oil for water. Just make Sure ya know what you are gettin' :)

I was thinking of buying the GRSII out of it, and Chris seemed like a really nice guy, he quickly posted specific pics that I requested. Sheet metal just gets cut off, I'm sure it isn't as rusty as my zuk...:D

This guy is in my club here in PA and it has absolutely no rust on it. It is a very capable rig and in good shape. He just needs the cash really bad at the moment hence the price. He also has another Sammi too. Nothing wrong with it and it hasn't been a mud machine. Chris is all about the rocks. THe snorkel is really there just for looks:D I don't think it has ever been of any real use. I'm sure Chris can tell you the truth on that though.

Hey guys, what's up? Sounds like you guys have some questions so I'll try to answer them best I can, btw, thanks Pete for the good word. You're pretty much right on the money.

SO here goes, "I smell rust " Nope, nothing major at least. It is starting to rus tsome under the fender flairs, but is not rotting out real bad.
As for behind the rockers, I'm sure there's some, but it's not rotted through at all, I'm getting ready to rip the plastic guards off and put some rocker guards on if no one buys it soon. There's a couple other little spots of rust here and there, for the most part it's all surface rust.
Snorkel : One of our local trails has a series of creek crossings and I put it on as a precaution, wound up only doing that trail once and never dipped low enough to need the snorkel, so basically it's not necessary, but I think it does look pretty cool on there.
SJ-410 backing Plate Had a rear axle seal go bad, replaced it, it still leaked, then the other seal went, replaced both, 1 still leaked and a wheel bearing went, Basically, I got REAL tired of disconnecting and bleeding my brakes everytime I took the shaft out, read the articles on roadless gear (http://www.roadlessgear.com) and it seemed like a good thing to do.
Mud Machine Not the case at all, guys in my club actually laugh because half the time I'll purposely drive around mud pits. I grew up in South Jersey running trucks with 39" Swampers through bottomless mud pits, after you do that for 3 or 4 years, driving a truck with 33"s through mud just doesn't do anything for you. Jersey mud also showed me what it does to wheel bearings, seals, starters, alternators, etc. So I keep both of my Sami's on dry turf as much as possible. Once I moved to PA I caught the rock bug hard and that's really all I do now.
History of Black Sami bought it in December of 2000 bone stock, drove it for 4 months then caught the bug to build it (sold my scrambler). Did a ghetto shackle lift for a couple months with 32" ATs. IT worked good offroad, handled like hell on. Then I went SOA, picked up the thornbirds n GRS-II. Been tweaking it since. It's been run on trails probably 5 or 6 times since I bought it. I use my 87 sami for all the hardcore stuff.
I'll cut the essay off here, like Pete said, I'm REALLY short on cash, I've got two Samis, as much as I'd like to keep both and really build the black one extreme, I can't afford it. One of the Sami's has to go, it's pretty tough to decide which one, I've got more sentimental connection to the black one, but the Tan one kicks ass on the rocks. hope that helps. Later.

I meant no offence with my comments - only observations based on specific facts, and I did say you have to see the truck in person to know for sure so I wasn't assuming anything.

I have seen many-a-rig for sale that cleans up real nice, but turned out to be polished turds!

Your's sounds like it would be a good truck for the money, tho.:)

Yeah, don't worry dude, I didn't take offense to anything you guys said. I just figured I might as well clear up some of the questions you guys had.
You definitely don't know what you're buying till you look at a truck up close.
HOpefully someone will buy this one, if not then I gotta try to sell my 87 cuz I need the dinero. Later

Hey, sorry I lost track of the thread, Where in PA do you live, if you're close to State College you might want to wheel with us sometime. Check the PSU 4x4 BB (http://pub84.ezboard.com/bpennstate4x4) to keep up to date with what the club is doing.
To answer your ?, the black 91 Sami was PA inspected, it expired recently, but I'm sure I could get it inspected again if I actually tried. I drive a Chevy pickup as my daily driver, so the zuks sit most of the time, when I do drive it on occasion, noone around here seems to care that it's not inspected.
