Anyone use these things at work or have one and like it? Unless I hear something negative about this model I am buying this basic Fluke model 62 which should work perfectly for my simple auto/home needs. http://www.web-tronics.com/fl62minothf6.html

Fight your urge to ask why and trust me when I say you'll want one that goes above 500 degrees. Seriously.

If you are going to use it for headers and brake work you may want it to read above the 500 Celcius. I don't have mine here in the office, I think it's in the trailer, but I think mine goes to 1400 F. Not the same brand as yours, it cost about $185. Found my receipt - I have the Extech model 42540.

Definitely one of the most useful tools we have.

If you use it for racing, be careful about using it for tire temps. Infrared thermometers tend to read surface temps, not carcass temps, so a probe type is better. We use a probe type for tires and the IR type for checking brake pad and rotor temps.

After two seasons (of hard use) I found the readings a little off in the below 250 F range, I sent it in to be calibrated again, and they repaired and calibrated it under warranty.
