I am almost ready to start my truck after it has sat in the garage for about 8 months while I worked on it. I was going to change the oil and then change it again after a couple hundred miles. Should I do anything else before I start it? Its a 2.7l tacoma.

There will be fresh gas, have a whole new fuel cell. I kept the stock pump, do I need to bleed the system? The pump is in the tank.

probly wouldn't hurt to purge the pump with some fresh fuel. You could just start the pump with some fresh gas. It will circulate thru the pressure regulator at the fuel rails and back to the tank (on EFI models anyway).

I would find a way to pre-lube it. After sitting that long there`s not going to be any oil in the top end.

Changing the oil won`t fill all the oil passages. Spining the oil pump shaft with a tool designed for that purpose will. Thats why they make the tools retard.:shaking: I can see you`ve done alot of motor work:rolleyes:

i admit i dont do alot of motor work, but changing the oil will oil the lifters, 8 months isnt that long to be sitting. i started my truck up when it sat for almost 8 and it had no oiling issues. i never said changing the oil was the ONLY way so fuck off

Make sure there is oil in it, check the other fluids and start it. My truck sat in a field for at least a year and half. I put in a battery and some gas and started it. What gas was there didn't burn to well, but once it got some fresh gas, runs perfect. If your worried about pre-lubing it, disconnect the injectors and let it crank for a few seconds, or see if the guage has pressure.

If your worried about pre-lubing it, just pull the spark plugs and spin her over for a minute or two. . With zero compression there is almost no stress on lubed parts.

my 76 chevy sat for over 8 years with a full tank of gas... put tires on it and a new battery and ran it. Luckily i wasnt be myself when the fuel filter got plugged. soon later greased everything and changed oil.

I just use a cord drill witha large 1/4 inch extension and a 5/16th I believe to match the oil pump driveshaft and spin the bastard. tape it all together so it goes in as one long piece and spin it. Have a buddy watch for oil pressure and make sure you spin it the right way. (depends on the motor so find out before you try this )

Changing the oil is a real good idea. Not because it's going to pre-lube much, but rather that it will remove any condensation in the pan. Some WD40 in the cylinder bores probably wouldn't hurt either.

It's unfortunate that you can't spin up the oil pump on the 4 cyls to get oil in the journals. Running the starter briefly without the plugs (unplug the ignition and fuel pump) until you get some oil pressure is also good idea.

If you're really ambitious, you might pull the valve cover and pour some oil on the valve train. Just don't try to race the engine after starting it until it can lube itself again.
