: can a 35" bfg mt win at pro rocks
gunracer1 03-27-2002, 11:08 AM i am building a very light weight buggy for the pro rocks in ark. and bfg is kicking in 1500 in bonus money if it is won on bfgs. the buggie will be 96" w.b. with the lowest part of the frame at 28" of ground clearance. with a 34" tire. so from some of the guys with some experiance, do you think its worth shooting for. the rig will be around 1200lbs. and i will be in trophy class[unlimited]. i know pro rocks wont let you pull a strap[with out penelty], so the gates must be placed in a semi drivable line. i am just thinking that a light, low c.g., rig should be able to work great on a smaller tire. so am i nutz
Whitewater 03-27-2002, 11:20 AM I'd go with a 37" BFG if you can get em. I'm not familiar with your rig or the terrain out there but the 37" should save your diffs from getting hung more often than not.
ol John Henry 03-27-2002, 11:22 AM I do think they are little small for the job, but I wicked driver just might pull it off:evil:
Give it a try:D
It aint the broom that sweeps the floor:grinpimp:

True, but since he seems to be concetrating on the $1500 additional prize money, spending over $800 on a set of new 37" BFG's kinda sucks *potential* profits away real fast...
gunracer1 03-27-2002, 12:38 PM its over 1100 bucks for the 37s the 35s are just 650. and i think the rig may be a bit tall on the 37s. hoping to hit the ideal package here. yea i know a pipe dream
Hypoid Drive 03-27-2002, 12:41 PM It's worth a try I suppose , but what will hurt you way more than clearance under the diff will be the rolling diameter or the lack thereof
weldpro 03-27-2002, 12:46 PM Man I wanna see a pic of your rig (1200lbs.!!!) that would be wild.
As far as the 35s' try it , and tell us;) .

Lance 03-27-2002, 12:46 PM We won RCAA with 37" BFGs, FWIW.... But I personally think that 35's are too small to be competitive with the big boyz. I'd step up to 37's.
And how on Earth do you have a 1200lb rig. Does it have a briggs and stratton motor? :p

Do they have to be UNmodified BFG's? Seems to me that if you did any grooving or even siping, that it would no longer be a BFG tread design. So, wouldn't it be kind of silly for BFG to give bonus money for winning under those circumstances?

They don't care what you do to the tire, as long as they still say BFG on the sidewalls. ;)
FWIW, we didn't groove or sipe the BFGs on Mike's rig for Farmington. Oh yeah, the contingency for RCAA was $2,000. :p

Unreal. $2k contingency $$ & they won't give us a dime to plaster their name all over a stadium full of thousands of spectators unless we can guarantee that there will be loads of competitors on BFG's. Well gee, build us a tire that's worth a schit in the mud & people will race on them

gunracer1 03-27-2002, 01:51 PM hey weld pro, its just a pile of parts and a frame right now. i think i am going to go with the 35s and plan on stacking some rocks. i am sticking my skinny ass buddie jai bird in it to drive. i figure me at 230 and 6'1" can be a rock humper.

I just got my hands on the new 35 inch KM's. Unloaded on a 10 inch wide rim they are exactly 35 inches as measured iwth a level and a tape measure. Didn't measure them with 5500lb of K5 sitting on them mostly because it no longer fits in the garage (only level spot on my property :) )

your close, but its not a Briggs;)
pure-adrenaline 03-28-2002, 10:22 PM We ran the same tires mike and lance had in Farmington in St. george. They worked great. We siped the middle tread and it seemed to work great. We have the new Krawler"s now and they are bad ass. I think we might cut on them a little more for Pro Rock next month.
fatkid 03-28-2002, 11:10 PM I think the last Calrocs was won with a set of 36" TSL's, not sure though...
gunracer1 03-29-2002, 05:36 AM well i openend my big mouth on a set of 37s, but the more i think about it, i would do fine on the 35s. i just have to see what happens on the 37s. they will end up running me about 1k more to go with the 37s. by the time i get the rims and bead locks. mike

Better see if you can get them yet. BFG had the 35 inch KM lines down to make more tires that fit exploders. They just fired up the line about 1.5 weeks ago. Guy I talked too said it takes about 30days to get the suply line filled and to the stores......That would put you mid April if you don't luck up on a store that had several set in stock before they ran out.
gunracer1 03-29-2002, 11:40 AM hell the rig wont be done for a month so it really doesn't matter at this point, if i get the 37s, i have to start fabbing up a set of locks and redrill them. it's going be a pain either way. but i can get a set of 37s by next week. mike
