If so, what the heck do they come out of, and how would you identify one short of pulling a shaft out?

looking for - ideally - a 65-67" wide 8 lug rear w/ 35 splines...

Everything I've read has said the only way to tell the spline count is to pull the shafts. HTH

Thanks Camo, but I am not taking any pics for you, you perv :rainbow:

I was hoping at least for a lead as to what vehicle to start looking under in the junkyard...

The idea of pulling all those bolts to pull a shaft from every axle in the large pile at the junkyard is NOT appealing :(

I have a J4000 60 in my garage but it is offset...I think the only 35 spline 60s are SF and have c-clips...but I may be wrong

RokHeep

Got two of em. :flipoff2:

J-4000
Semi Float, NON c-clip
5x5.5
35 spline non tapered 1.5" shafts
66" wms-wms
Supa beef! ;) :vader2:

The pinion is offset to the passenger side ~ 1.5 inches or so. I am cutting the long side down so I can run two short side shafts (I trust OEM shafts more than resplined ones) and I will be at 63" to match the front. I will cut down the long sides for spares.

So that's it, just one model of the J-truck has a 35 spline FF Dana60 rear?

In that case, how much less clearance does a Dana70 have compared to a Dana60?

1980+ ford f250's have 35 spl sf 8 lug C clip axles...They taper up from 1.5" to almost 2" at the bearings...

Saw a dually D60 out of a motor home with 35 spline shafts. It was a 70s GM 1 ton chassis. I have no idea why a GM motorhome chassis would have a 35 spline D60 rather than a D70 or 14 bolt, but that's what it was.

Most stock 35 spline 60's come under work vans! look for a ford 1-ton work van it will have a 35 spline 60 or 70, I'm not sure about the WMS to WMS, probably around 67", I see alot of weird stuff under the Sears vans at work, I think they put stronger axles in them for durability. I think I even saw a 6-lug semi-float Dana 60 under a chevy 3/4 ton work van once!

i could tell you but then i would have to kill ya :flipoff2: and i couldnt post it in a public forum cause then all these web wheelers would be digging them up for there own use to rot in some barn outback :D :flipoff2: they do exisit though but the easiest way i have found so far to get what you want is get a 60 out of a late 80 to early 90 dodge rear and buy a set of axles from spicer that are 35 spline and bolt them in there :flipoff2:

try early model 3/4 ton - 1 ton dodge vans with studs instead of bolts. :flipoff2:

(second hand info from the web, so take it as hear say) Yeap exactly. I got 2 of them. Thay say D60 HD right on the top of the housing. Thay are D60 35 splines with D70 shafts and outers. Do not know why thay went through all that work and did not just use 70s. Thay came out of chevy motor homes. Hay DRM I will sell you one. Thay have 4.88 in them. Hell I will sell both. I think one has A trac lock in it. Ill evan put disk brakes on them for you. Im getting good at it.

Stop wasting your time DRM... Get a 14BFF, shave it, install a low-cost detroit locker, install cheap disk brakes, and never break it! Oh yeah, it's very close to the weight of a rear D60 FF, too.

Where the shaft bolts in on the end of the wheel hub assembly, most have bolts, some have studs.

Is the FF axle shaft bolted to the hub with bolts or studs? That is what we are talking about.

DRM look under mid 70s Chevy Trucks 1 tons. Very few had 35 spline D60s. Most will tell you its a 14 bolt but like I said some used 35 spline D60s.
