If you really want to be cool, you can weld some square stock in between the plates, like an H;)

Get new ones. 1/4" is good 3/8" is better! :D:D:D

I bent a couple 1/4" shackles in the 5 inch length and then I went to 3/8" I haven't had a problem since.

I have always used 3/8" x 2" flat stock. I drill my holes for 9/16" bolts. This is for the FJ40 bushings so your FJ6x may be different. I would suggest you find out what size your spring pins are and use that size do drill your holes.

What kind of metal should i use? And do you think that i'll have to mess with my stearing? :D :smokin:

this seams much cheaper than buying new shackles, and you can make them the exact size that you need. This seams to easy!

cool idea

I have a set of homemade 60 series shackles in my garage. They were 60seriesguy's before me, and he got them from another cruiser buddy before that. If anyone wants them, I can go dig them up and measure how long. Yours for shipping.

I would use cold rolled mild steel. But, since I have a ton of hot rolled, I just use it. (see my reply above for size) You won't have to mess with your steering unless you make the shackles way too long. If you do, you will have to add a degree shim between the front springs and the axle housing to correct the caster. Very simple to do.
