I've got a '96 Rodeo, 3.2. I just go tthe truck and the check engine light was on when I got it. There's a vacuum line coming off of the intake manifold on the passenger's side (on the side, up front, in plain view) that's not connected to anything. It was wide open. I can't figure out what it's supposed to connect to. I capped it off with a piece of vacuum hose with a screw in it for the time being and my idle speed dropped by about 500RPM and the idle smoothed out a good bit. Can anyone tell me where this connection should lead? Here's a picture of the connection that I'm talking about:

Thanks in advance
Can you post another pic at night zoomed in right on it with nothing else in the image?

So, you're one of THOSE folks. I did the best that I could with the light that I had and a flash that wouldn't cooperate. My intention was to post better images this morning. Here's a much better view:

I hope that meets your high photographic standards. I'd hate to offend your sensitive tastes.

I just checked out my 93 3.2 rodeo and I have a nub where that vac fitting would be, but no fitting. Im guessing that cruise controll right next to it, it's possible that it uses vacume, since mine does not have CC that might be why I dont have that port.

Thanks for taking a look and taking the time to reply. I do have cruise, but it works fine. In fact, the truck runs fine (with the exception of poor gas mileage). The code that is being stored relates to the EGR, but I don't see any vacuum connections on the EGR (and this one's kinda far away from it as well).

I have a 1996 3.2l and I just replaced the vsv on the front diff. The missing line on yours should have a line going to a check valve then feed the 4wd vacuum switching valves on the axle. Hopefully this will help.

Hmmm... this is a 2WD truck. Should it just be capped, perhaps?
