: best bought axle?

If money was not a large object and you had the option to buy an axle from a supplier what would you buy? I think a high clearance diff of some sort but don't know. anybody with any experince with them? It's for a glass bodied Early bronco probably have them made at 65" WMS to WMS. The reason I mention that is I think the terra50r might even be a good choice but then again none have been on the market long enough for me to hear a lot of feedback. Portals are way to expensive if someone is already thinking that! Thanks, Jake!

Depends on if weight is an issue or not. If its not an issue, i'd go with a set of shaved and narrowed rockwells. If it was an issue, i'd do Currie 9". Front would be shaved with a hp carrier, f-450 knuckles and d60 shafts, rear would be shaved with 9+ carrier and 40 spline shafts. :)

If I were to buy a custom axle, with cost no object, I would buy from Dynatrac. Their quality is awesome, but you pay for it, too. And don't expect to have it in less than 2 months!!

BTW, I'm running a RC 60 from them. :flipoff2:

Money's no object? And you can wait a little while? And you can deal with lots of unsprun weight? And you want it virtually unbreakable? Mog 406 w/ custom shafts to offset the front diff more and center the rear diff.

I would have a custom Eaton built, with some welderboy knuckles, camo's 40 spline gun-drilled axles and a sewer weld cap welded to the front. I would get some portal outers welded on for clearance and turn the hogs head upside down for clearance and proper rotation. then I would add hydraulic steering. put one of these in each end with a new eaton electric locker and that would be my ultimate axle.

start with this and go crazy

I think he wants something like a dynatrac axle (from a supplier), not one that he has to peice together. The Eaton one sounds cool, but he would have to get axles from camo, knuckles from welderboy, not to mention the housing and mog outers. And he said portals are way too expensive. Not that money is not an object, but that money isn't a large object so try to keep that in mind, too. :)

I guess you need to say what the object of your money is?:flipoff2:
cuz if your money is the object then get the object of your money
the axle!
but if money is no object then no axle?!
I figure if he says money is not a big object then he doesn't want a big axle so no rockwell
but is is sort of a big object he must need at least a 60 or an eaton would be cool
I think if he's gonna have dynacrap build his junk he could afford to have welder build him my crazy idea if not 4 (2 for me:D )

Not tryin to b an A$$, but build it yourself, and that way when it breaks on the trail (cause if you're GETTIN IT, it WILL break) :skull: :D you can fix it. Jus my .02. If you do choose to have it built for you, go with something that uses mostly off the shelf parts, so you can afford to carry spares. Try to deal with a local shop, it may cost more than ordering direct, but service and quality should be better,

YOu live too close to Sunray not to take advantage of being able to pick them up yourself.

I LOVE my Hybrid 35 spline D60/9", reverse tie rod, shaved pumpkin.

It rocks! Sunray does an AWESOME job and they are close to you.

start with this and go crazy I like the Idea of runnin the eatons, I think the IH Ra 15/20 would make a hell of a starting point. What do those knuckles look like?? I got access to a few IH RA 20's and would love to put em to use. Even with the 19 spliners (I think 19, not quite sure just know they are coarse splines) they seem to be tough axles. Money no object, get a set of them MO FOs built!!! I would recommend building em yourself, or at least doing what you can.

I wanted to leave it open to see what suggestions you guys had. Basically I am looking at a high clearance dana 60 from dynatrac or a tera60 or tera 50 from tera. I know most guys here build there own stuff but I know you have the experience with the "store bought" variety. What is the best product and the best shop to use to build it. Money is a definate concern but I don't want to skimp on something so vital as an axle because of a couple hundred bucks. I think a built dana 44 would hold up in this vehicle fine but if buying new and building it right then why not go bigger.

Dynatrac vs. tera vs. others? I would like to stay away from hybrid stuff for the ease of working on it later.

Pretty much there AGGIE_04

A local shop here? This is freakin bolt on city here man...

Thanks for the suggestions keep em comin. Jake

Why not just swap 14 bolt shafts onto that eaton? Then you get the $330 detroit. I'm running an Eaton - but I'm just leaving it stock (w/ a detroit). Sure they have like 19 spline shafts - but I've never seen anyone break one.

p.s. WTF is up with that sewer weld cap?? That would kill the ground clearance - especially if you rotate it up for a good d-shaft angle.

If you are looking to go with the Terra60R, then drivetrain direct is probably your best price, They can build it ready to bolt on cheap. Call Dave Rittenhouse at 888-584-4327 ex 117 and ask for the "Phil Jensen Price" They start at under $3K each.

They also sell complete 14 bolts with Detroit's, gears, and disc brakes starting at $1700 ;)

HTH,
Phil Jensen

Give Sam's Off-Road in Tulsa a call (918)446-5535. They do hi-pinion 60's, Tera 60's, etc...

weld cap is 1/2 inch thick
if you don't turn your axle up
because you are not able to afford or find 1410 cv-joints and would rather just run a standard drive shaft with 1410 ujoints then clearance is not an issue, because you are not turning up the pinion. Plus I would like to see you put a dent in that weld cap from a rock. I figure being round and beefy I won't wory about dragging it over or catching it on anything.
This is my first completey custom truck and it is of the overbuilt variety, the next one will be the light-weight version.

These weld caps come in a variety of sizes from your local industrial plumbing supply store.

I talked to DD. They can only do 5 on 5.5 and won't have a front axle ready for production for 3 months. Dave wasn't there ( I guess with the rest of the people in moab) so I didn't get very good information. I wanted to get a quote as this is something I need good info on so I can try to sell this deal. But all I got was between 5-6k.

Any body else have a good supplier on tera60's?

Just wait until Monday when Dave gets back. He will set you up with my special pricing. He can do the Terra axles cheap. He can also do the Corp 14.
8 bolt? No problem (they built mine):
