I got access to a 86 FSB and was wanting to make sure the auto is a C-6.
It has the 5.0 EFI in it so it has the bolt pattern I need. No AOD on tailgate and shifter indicator shows 1, 2, and D. no double D's.

Anyone know for sure or where to look? - I've searched on here but nothing positive on it. Thanks for help.

My AOD has 1,2, and D. If the tranny hasn't been swapped out then it's an AOD. The AOD is a nice tranny BTW. I have over 175k on my stock AOD and I'm not easy on it.

It could be an AOD or a C6. Most likely an AOD.

How can you identify which is which? This one has a different pan than the AOD's I already have but the one's I have are 2 wheel drive trannys. I know the 4WD pan will be deeper but is the C6 and AOD the same? Around the center of the pan has a drop down area (pickup tube?) about the size of a golf ball but half moon like.

I couldn't really crawl under it to get to the ID tag (good clothes day)
What tranfer case is on it also? It's an aluminum housing style, is it any good?

Thanks for any help

Dont worry about it being an AOD or C6 both can take thier fare share of abuse if you want to make an AOD stronger take an EAOD and mate them it will be bullit proof.

Well it turns out it was an AOD - while they may be ok, I want the C6.

So browsing around I found an 80 F-150 off in an out of the way area that came with a 302 carb, C6 4WD. I bought this C-6 tranny instead. :p Definitely a different oil pan and somewhat a larger body overall.

Now it's off to find a 203 for my doubler.
