Ok so I tore the top off the SM 465 yesterday. It looks great inside. Nothing out of the norm.

So I got to thinking. SM behind my TJ 4.0?
So I start looking for the adaptor.. First--- Advance's site (its very hard to search)
Then Novak's site. (much easier) They are going to have SM465 to NP231 adaptors coming this year. (no price avail yet)

This got me thinking... Do I need a dana 300? Or will the 231 be ok behind the SM465?

OK is the important word here. I know I will eventually upgrade to either a 300 or an ATLAS... But not all at once. $$$$$$$$$$$

Back to my first question? Has anyone done a SM behind a 4.0?

Part number of adaptor and price and where you got it. Thanks.

TJ still in planing stages......

Advance Adapters makes a full bellhousing for doing that. The 231 should bolt up to the 465 if the dana 300 will. Talk to John @ JB Conversions, they can help a lot.

Bert you also have to think about the Crank Posiitioning(SP) Sensor. You can buy the new harmonic balancer that puts the CPS in the front or you have to modify the bellhousing to work with the on on the flywheel. This is all if the sm465 has to use a different bellhousing, if not the please disregard the previous post:p

You can use a t-150 bellhousing out of an earlier jeep, but you have to modify it to use the cps and hydraulic clutch. Novak does the maching for the cps for pretty cheap I think. There are some other threads about this, search for 4.0 bellhousing. :jeep:

The AA bellhousing is setup for the CPS. It uses a stock CJ-7 slave cylinder, so it is definately hydraulic. The stock TJ master doesn't work very well with it but switching to a cj-7 master is just about bolt on...very good setup, i had the nv4500 behind my 4.0l which is basically the same thing.

thanks guys Great info here. I will do some calling around. I have to plan this out cause the adaptor from the Sm465 to my np231 may cost as much as 500? I'll start calling around.
