Has anyone here got any experience of putting a mechanical fuel injection pump on an engine which previously had an electronic one and an ECU ? I would like to use one of the BMW straight six diesels out of the P38A, but I cant run an electronic engine. It has to be real simple with a cable operated stop solenoid so it will run with no electric supply. As far as I can see, if I find a Bosch pump which I can physically bolt up, and get drive from the timing belt, it should be possible, right ?

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, but the real question I would think is why put your self through the hassle? There are plenty of engines with mechanical pumps from the get go. With an electric engine there are a lot of parameters that are controlled by the computer and they would need to be suplemented in some way for the engine to work correctely. I would suggests a different engine. The 300 tdi the 200 tdi early cummins there are some toyota and izusu diesels that are also all mechanical. There is more to it than bolting up a pump
