I am not sure what TPI is? I know what TBI is and CPI. If it is a TBI, I would go for it depending on the price. Kick ass little motor. I had a CPI and hated it just becasue it was hard to find after market mods for. Had something to do with the type of computer it came with. The CPI's computer was mounted on the passenger fender. I dont remember the VIN codes anymore but I think it was 'W'. These engines have great heads on them, they dont get much better for a stock motor. With the TBI you can change out the throttle body for a larger one. There is a guy in MI who has a (he claims) 350horse TBI with nothing but bolt on mods. Says all he did was change the throttle body, put on headers, new exhaust, MSD, etc.
TPI might be the same as the CPI, Tuned port/Central port. Either way they will both have the spider injector under the intake manifold. In my opionion, you would be happier with the throttle body injected.
TBI are just about everywhere, parts are realatively cheap and common at pull yards. They are easy to work on. Just my two cents.

cpi is the same as a tune port injection on a v8's trodl body injection uses a card looking thing with two injecters to feed the moter

hold on you got to make sure you read this right. TPI and TBI are two different things. TBI is the throttle body injection and TPI is tuned port injection and they are different from each other. The 4.3 came with TBI but you could only get TPI on camaros and firebird/transams and maybe corvettes and some caddys and buicks, but not with a 4.3.

Many people call the 92-95 CPI engine 'TPI' because it carries a vague resemblence to the 305/350 TPI used in the F-body.

I would stay away from it unless you have visions of using the longblock for TBI, carb, or propane. My parents had two '93 S10s with these engines and they really are a nightmare.

Yea I thought there was a difference between TPI and TBI. TPI didnt ring any bells with me in the 4.3 but I made the stretch to Tune Port. I have herd people refer to Central Port as Tuned Port and thought maybe that was what he was talking about.
So now that we have that established...Keep away from it. I have seen a lot of guys using TBI in their trail rigs. Easy to instal. Decent amount of after market mods available for it. Easy to find replacment parts for. A decently torqee motor and a damn good set of heads. Myself though. I perfer a carb on my motor. You cant do extreme stuff, like run my motor while it is upside down but with a good carb and some time spent on tuning, they well run at pretty extreme angles. If you go with a small V8, you can put a Holley Truck Avenger carb on it. These work great out of the box and with a little tuning, they will stay running almost horizontal. Vertical is a bit more challenging. Ascending hills is easier on them than decending hills but I think you will be hard pressed to make it stall out.
IMO carbs are a lot more easy. Hassle free, nothing to get wet and short out. One day I will have fuel injection on my rig though so I guess it comes down to what do you perfer?

thanks guys, i found out that its a CPI not TPI out of a 93 truck. I was told that it was somthing better then a regural 4.3 but its not so my search for a v8 continues, thanks again.

I love my cpi 4.3
it makes the most HP than other 4.3's
the only problem with mine in 280000 miles was the plastic fuel line the feeds
the injector

with high miles and poor maintance it still runs strong

The power is good - 195/200hp stock - when it runs right... which is the difficulty.

You are having very good luck with yours. Carbon fouling, EGR valve, and frequent injector/poppet problems are the norm.

The 96+ engines are more flexible... programmable ECM, sequential-fire injection, etc. This is the version of the engine I would choose if I wanted EFI and power. Vin W is 190hp and Vin X is less (170?hp) but afaik, the only difference between the two is the camshaft.
