I dont know what happend to the first post, but here it is..

Drove 2 hrs to go wheeling today and didnt get 200ft across the parking lot and the r&p let go in the rear end of the samurai.
I knew the pinion bearing was going bad, but did not think it would get worse that quick.. Long story short, I need new r&P.
Now, I am thinking about kick gears. I do have a complete rear end out of a tracker. I think it was about 90' vintage, with manual 2wd. anyone know what ratio it might be? I am going to tear it down tomorrow to count the teeth. Would it be worth swaping out r&P only or maybe using the whole axle assembly? Does anyone have any pics of this swap? Anything i should look out for? If i use this axle, what type of tracker /kick should i look for at the junk yards for a matching front 3rd?
Thanks
Steve

It should be 5.125 ring and pinions. You will have to use the whole rear end or get a custom housing from sky-manufacturing.com, or trail tough. If you have the bling you can buy a full floater from spidertrax and use the third member that you have. The sidekick rear third member is too large for the samurai housing.

If you want to keep the samurai housing you will need two front sidekick thirds and use the ring and pinions in the samurai thirds but you will need shims to shim the ring gear.

If you wanted to you could use the whole rear axle assembly and just weld spring pads onto it but it's going to be centered.

yep, 5.125's. you can git a matching front out of anything except for california autos and short wheelbase autos for the most part. all the lwb kicks and manual kicks should be a match. git an install kit from your favorite vendor. you may use the bearings and races from the kick in your sammy housing if you swap them as a set (bearings AND races, ask me how i know). i am pleased with the swap, but my gearing is really really low. i had to get an earlier transmission with the taller 5th gear and buy larger tires to get a more streetable combo. best bet within the tire size limits of the samurai would be to go with the higher diff gears in the swb auto trans kicks.

I used two fronts from a kick in my Samurai. I ripped the whole 3rd in half using the kicks 3rds. I'm in the process of pulling the R&P out and putting it in my Sami 3rds.
