My brother and I are about to 4 link the back of his K5. I see some guys are using 2'' .250'' wall tube with threaded inserts and 1.250'' all thread . For the same price roughly, I can get 2'' x .500'' wall tube, drill out the I D for a tap and either tap it for 1.250 or 1.5'' all thread. This would eliminate the need for the threaded inserts. I already have the drill bit and tap for 1.250''x12 tpi. I would have to buy the tap for 1.5''x12 tpi ($90). I can chuck up to 3'' material through the spindle of my lathe, so that isnt a problem either. The plan would be to use the thick wall material mainly on the lower links since they will see more abuse. The question is, does the .500'' wall thickness seem like too much overkill when the allthread is the weakest point(I assume)?
If all works out well on his, my cruiser is next.

this is the same material im useing on my four link in progress right now. i dont expect to bend them but who knows.. jason m uses this and i dont think he's had any trouble with them... if you use thinner material and it bends youll be mad so just jump to the end and go thick...

disclainer: i have never done a four link before and i have yet to drive mine so all this is speculation.. take it as that and continue to research and ask questions....

i ran a piece of 1/2'' x 1.5'' along the top of my lower links(theyre 1.75 .250''wall.) the bigger/thicker DOM tube is just WAY to expensive....
