: Campbell CJ hood + CJ grill on a YJ ?
Honkylips 03-27-2002, 04:01 PM Because I bore easily, I've been toying with the idea of putting a CJ grill in my YJ. The search function didn't turn up anything helpful. Since I was also toying with the idea of getting a 'rockcrawling hood' from Campbell Ent., I thought it would be best to do both mods at the same time.
What I'm wondering is if I get a CJ hood from Campbell ent., and then a CJ grill, what kind of issues will I have? I think using that hood will make this swap a bit easier to line up right, but who knows? Any ideas, or do i just need to get out there and do it.
Cutter 03-27-2002, 04:12 PM there is at least one on this board that has put a CJ front end on a TJ, a YJ is much easier.People used to put YJ front ends on Scramblers:rolleyes: back when YJ's were new...and people are always swyaping YJ tubs for the rusty CJ ones they have. Pretty much a bolt on. you can also swap in a CJ dash, too.
Do an internet search for Jeepskate - this guy has a very well documented bit on doing just this... or is it a YJ front end on a CJ... anyway, he's got a great site.
ya i am the guy who did the cj clip on the tj but i know as far as a cj-yj it will just bolt right up no problems i have done that before also....
Cutter 03-27-2002, 08:32 PM Heytj7! How ya been? If honkylips used the campbell hood it should be a piece o' cake...'cept for finding a place for all the crap thats on the inner fenders right now.
FULLSIZE 03-27-2002, 09:58 PM you must be bored! why all the swapping? their has to be something else that needs more attention on your rig than this?:flipoff2:
if i remember right, the cj grill onto a yj isnt a direct swap, you need to move the mount(direction i dont know)
It's not a direct swap... Jeepskate's website outlines it very well.
wheelinjp 03-28-2002, 06:41 AM I researched this a couple years ago to swap to a yj from a cj. It is a direct bolt on at the firewall, but at the grill you need to move the mount inward. I was doing the YJ clip on my cj5 because there is 4.5 more inches of eng compartment on a YJ. If you measure from the firewall to the inside of the cj= 31.5 yj=36in. I believe(3yr old measurement from memory) It should be very simple with the Campbell hood. If you get an early cj 5 grill then it wont have the thick spot around the back that is 4in deep. Good luck.

lol...Well, I'm pretty happy with the way the jeep is set up. Both my front fenders, and my hood have some pretty good, umm, "trail induced modifications", so I figured this swap would be a good way to get back some straight sheetmetal.
CUTTER....can you explain the early CJ5 grill/ 4" deep thing again. I'm running a little slow today, it was a long night and many   at the cardtable last night. Thanks.
AzWebMan 03-28-2002, 07:45 AM FYI... the YJ Frame is 4" wider than a CJ; the CJ grill will almost fit between the frame rails. You *could* skip the normal body mount in the front center and just add side braces coming off the frame to hold the grill in place. Since your going with a rockcrawler hood, I'm assuming that fenders are going away?

Yup,...the hood has some little wingy's on it that are sort of like little flat fender tops, but there's nothing on the side.
The Rockslut 03-28-2002, 03:21 PM How much are those hoods?
mjcj7 03-28-2002, 04:42 PM Yeah, how much ?? do they have a web site ??

Fred Wilson 03-29-2002, 02:54 PM Interesting, as I just talked to 'em (Campbell Ent.), yesterday regarding the TJ hood (on a TJ). Note that there is a lot more work here than simply just bolting on the hood. Note that the "fenders" are one piece with the hood. This means that your existing fenders have to be removed, not just the flares but the whole fender (see photo above). This leaves no place to mount a lot of stuff that's currently mounted to the fender sheet metal. This means construting some sort of tube subframe, again, see photo above. The TJ fenders (fiberglass, weighing about 20 lbs), cost $450.00
Cheers,
Fred
99_wrangler 05-24-2007, 02:49 PM Hi can you tell me how you put the cj grill on your tj I have a 1999 wrangler sport no ac 5 speed stick Thanks if you can help me that would make my day Thanks Jamie
CJBoxer 05-25-2007, 06:43 PM I don't get why you'd want a CJ grill on a TJ, CJ to YJ yes for the round headlights, but a TJ.
comeonstart 05-25-2007, 07:05 PM Could you find an older thread?
