Ok, weird question for an extreme board but there are a lot of toy people here...
Has anyone ever had a 1st gen runner or pre-Taco truck w/a 5 speed manual and Cruise Control and have the CC actually work?
Mine doesn't work but it tries. The motor seems to have enough power to keep up the speed pretty easily but it bogs down then kicks off. Maybe a vacuum problem.
Anyway, anyone actually able to use it?

I have a 92 pickup with a 5 speed and cruise. The cruise worked when I first got the truck but it doesn't now. I only used it once when did work though.

My 85 Pickup had aftermarket cruise and worked great. My 85 4Runner has stock cruise and it exhibits the same problems as yours. I set it at 70 and it goes to 66 and stays there. I can hit the gas and it'll go back to 70. I wouldn't mind finding a fix as I like to go on long road trips and wheel in other states.
Mine works like a charm on my 85 4runner....set it at about 75 and it will settle in at 72 which is fine for me....when on the open road naturally....Now if I had a setup like OPPs I could cruise in the box and drink a  ........:smokin:

Mine was having problems too when it was connected, needed help opening the throttle but was ok once it got up to speed. Turns out the diaphragm in the actuator is shot, along with a dry and cracked vacuum hose leading to it which is why it's capped off right now. Haven't missed it much...

Thanks for all the responses. I've always been curious but never bothered to ask. I might fool around with it this weekend. I think my actuator may be cracked and leaking also. Sure would be nice to have on some of the 2-3 hour trips to wheeling.

Digging up an old thread, Does anyone know what I have to do to make the cruise control work again after an auto to 5 speed swap?

You probably need to add the VSS for the cruise control speed input. On the m/t, its screwed on the back of the speedometer on the older trucks (i.e. mechanical speedos). On the autos, I think the VSS is in the tranny itself.
Then, on the cc itself, make sure the cab ground next to the cc module is clean and solid. Mine would cut out at the slightest bump in the road. Turns out the cab ground must have been loose. Fixed that and it works great now.

The speedo cable from the auto screwed into the manual just like factory. I also have a digital dash, not sure if that makes a difference.
I have unplugged the auto tranny computer, which left the truck running fine. I dont know if the cruise worked before I unplugged the computer, as I forgot to try it. I will plug it back in and see what happens.
cruise control has nothing to do with the automatic computer. all it needs is the brake input and speed input from the back of the dash

hmmm... then it should be working as I havent messed with any of that stuff.
And why is this in the Newbie forum? its a specific technical question about TOYOTA cruise control.
