I have a yz250 and I want to bring it back to school in Phoenix, I am coming from my parents house in oregon. I have a 2 rail motorcycle trailer I use around here but i dont want to have to tow it all the way down there behind my bronco. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the motorcycle carriers that attach to the hitch??
These are some nice ones i found online, if they are sturdy it seems like its a fair price. http://www.gradycountycarriers.com/pages.php?pagename=sdbc

Yeah, those would work good, and if you dont want to make your own, the price is pretty good.

ive got one i haul my 600 around on and it works great....just remember to put a tie down over the rear wheel or it may jump out of the track like mine almost did...

I've built a few of them, they can work really well.

The best thing to to is to tie the bike to the bumper at an angle so the carrier will not "rock" back and forth.....

They all flex, unless there way over built. Some of the nicer units have bolts that tighten against the reciver to stop the movment......

Oh, go from the foot pegs under the carrier to suck the bike down....

I've brought my XR400 on long road trips (with lots of dirt road miles) and havent had any problems.

I've used both the rail type hauler and the under-the-engine type like www.ultimatemxhauler.com. Really like the solid feel when driving and ease of loading (no ramp or tie-downs) of the frame mount carriers and as a bonus they double as a work/track stand.

Or, you can be a moron, like me, and leave it out of gear with only two straps on. No idea what I was thinking. My XR650L thought it would look better where my 4runners back window was, however.

They work well when you are not a total fool. Like me.

I have never used one of these carriers but I have had friends build them and use production models as well. Everyone I have spoken to has liked them (except for the (as previously mentioned) weight shift if not secured properly).

Thought I would add these pics just because I have them (I am a "van-man" myself). I saw this guy at Clear Creek last weekend. Not sure how leagal the front bike is, neither was the owner/driver.

I haven't seen one fail yet. seen straps fail though BWAHAHHAH makes for a good show as long as it's not my bike.

I build them for street bikes all the time and for that kind of application I wouldn't want to buy prefab....I'd want overbuilt. for what you're looking to do I think it will be just fine. always make sure the straps are in mint condition. ratchet straps are a must because you can't get the leverage for good suspension conpression in such a vertical strapping situation with a pull strap. front and rear straps, straps to the bumper, and make sure all straps have locking clasps, or a bar saver...this ensures no chance of the strap falling off.

It's a shady place to carry a bike in that it's gonna be BAD if it gets off of there :D

a 2 rail trailer, or any flat trailer is scary as hell too....so you should be on par with that.
