: 205 clocking ring re oiler
rajincajingt 01-09-2006, 06:51 PM hey guys - i used the search but nothing turned up - prolly cause i dont know what it is called
i just installed a clocking ring on my 205 and i have heard about getting some oil to the high side of the case.
anybody got any info on this???
this is a dedicated trail beater so there will be no high speeds involved but i would like to make it as dependable as possible.
should i just drill and tap a new fill hole higher on the case??
thanks for you help guys
matt
rajincajingt 01-18-2006, 02:46 PM nothing???
i need some help on this...
guidolyons 01-18-2006, 04:14 PM The 205 is a gear driven case, so lube should be getting to the upper side of the case just fine, unless you have it clocked so much that the stock fill hole is too low. I would drill and tap an new higher fill/check hole, but be careful and don't overfill it. Or, maybe add a sight tube like an Atlas? Similar to this guys modded D300 http://www.4x4wire.com/tech/dana300/#SightTube
trkklr77 01-18-2006, 04:18 PM im sorry whats the problem, you rworried about not getting enough oil to the main gear?, which way did you clock it? if you turn it up to flaten your belly or down to make your drive shaft have better angle?
if your turned it up you could tap out the top over the center gear and just put some extra in.
down, you can go to north west fab a buy one of their plugged case inspection covers, or make your own.
Cochese 01-18-2006, 04:34 PM I have my Ford NP205 clocked flat and had no probs last season...1st runs.
Similar to what was above, I took out one of the bolts (above the main filler) that goes through to the case and added extra oil.......actually added too much cause for a bit it would pump out the breather (very small amount) but it eventually stopped and no probs since then.
It is a tough case!
Mine is also trail use only...maybe 40 MPH to get to the trail also.

rajincajingt 01-26-2006, 11:45 AM cool guys thanks for the help-

d.d.machine 01-29-2006, 10:40 AM Just pull the bolt just to the drivers side and up from the stock fill hole , the one that holds the rear output housing to the main case. Well its a 3/8" you can warm up 90* or just use ATF in the 205 .
sweet pic of it clocked up
was it one of my kits?

yeah man - thanks for the hook up
it looks real great i just need to find a way to twin stick it - there is not a whole bunch of clearance between the rails and what is left of the body. i should probably just cut the whole thing out and shift it with my hands :shaking:

ATF in a NP 205? Hmm, the NP205 I had in my 76 Chevy recommmended 90W gear oil. It seems like ATF would be too thin. Or is it because it has been clocked?
rajincajingt 01-30-2006, 05:50 AM that is what i was thinking but apparently people do it all the time
d.d.machine 01-30-2006, 10:44 AM Gm in the mid / late 80`s (6 bolt round) changed over to using ATF in the 205`s ,,, Most of the newer gear boxes run ATF in them ,
I have worked on a few 205`s that had ran for years with ATF and they looked like new inside,
I use ATF for lube in my screw machines , lubes well , does not foam up, easy to clean, and easy to get.

Yeah, I knew the newer chain driven cases (NP231/241/242/249, etc) used ATF, but I didn't think the older gear driven cases like the NP205 did..well mine was a '76 so that's why I guess.
d.d.machine 01-31-2006, 09:18 AM Matt your mail box is full... and no at this time I`m not making twin sticks for clocked 205`s .
