My 4cly has developed a problem. It will start fine in the morning but as the temp rises throughout the day the more trouble I have. When the temp reaches 55 ( a guess) it wont start at all.
I so have spark because it will fire on a cylinder or two then die. The exhause smells really rich. Seems like the computer is sending too much fuel.
Once started it will run as though their is no problem other than the check engine light comes on after a few minutes.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

Are you losing power as the temp rises? Could it be your Cat or have you ruled that out?

I lose no power as the temp rises. Motor runs like normal other than the check enginelight coming on. The cat is relatively new(1 1/2 yrs old)

Try disconnecting the engine temp sensor If I am right it will put the computer into an open loop and it will run not real well but it will then go down and buy a new sensor

Turn the key on and off 3 times within 5 seconds, leaving it on when you are done. Then count how many times the "check engine" light flashes. Then re-post with the codes.

HarleyM:
I looked for a engine temp sensor in my haynes book but it doesnt list any such thing. If there is one, where is it located?
I am learning to do all my errands in the morning while the jeep runs. If I cant figure this problem out I might have to buy an afternoon vehicle to go along with my morning Jeep (LOL):)

Like dorfs said pull your codes. Your Haynes manual should explain it and give definitions for each code. It's kind of pointless guessing at this point.

I'm pretty frustrated. I have replaced the manifold temp sensor,O2, and Crankshaft Position sensor. I also replaced the fuel filter. Nothing has worked.
The error codes given are 12,33(dont have A/C),51, 55.
The jeep wont start sometimes at all while every once in a while it will. I dont think it has anything to do with the outside temp anymore.
When started, it will run fine.
Any ideas?
