: Bending 2"X.250 DOM
FordPowr 03-27-2002, 08:18 PM I tried bending some 2" OD DOM with .250" walls in my JD2 and all I managed to do was ripped the mounting studs out of the concrete in my shop floor  using an 8' cheater bar. Has anyone succesfully bent this shit without a hydraulic setup????
Adam Ant 03-27-2002, 08:33 PM dude you are gonna break your Dies!
Not recomended!
I say heat it up! if you are gonna Bend it
Adam,
ol John Henry 03-27-2002, 09:45 PM My model 4 bends them fine:flipoff2: hydro
EDIT =opps, i was only bending 1.5

Ditto... model 4 hydrualic set up here.
Just make a 1' x 1' 3/8" steel base plate with lots of concrete anchors. :D
Just wondering why the heck are you using .250" wall? If you're building a roll over hoop for your John Deer... no problem, but if part of a cage on a trail rig.... might want to rethink this one.
Tom :usa:
Gordon 03-28-2002, 09:51 AM The Hossfield dies that are dimensionally the same as the JD2 dies and about the same price bend 2" solid in production all day long. They wear out just as fast bending tube or bending solid. I don't know about the JD2 dies but I don't think they will break either.
poppycock 03-28-2002, 10:00 AM 2"x.25" dom?
poppycock 03-28-2002, 10:01 AM how much did that set you back?
Gordon 03-28-2002, 11:41 AM I bet that is for his lower suspension links of a four link, it is pretty reasonable for that on a heavier rig I think.

Bingo, heavy rig with a big block and throttle happy driver :D I'm trying to bend the upper wish bone 3rd link to more of a dome shape instead of a tri-angle for clearance reasons.
It's not really that expensive, $55.00 for 10 ft. at ABC supply in Sac. Compared to the $12.50/ft. AIM in Woodland wanted it was a :smokin: deal. I Also picked up 11 ft. of 1.25" .250 DOM for my tie rod/drag link for $50.
Gordon 03-28-2002, 01:19 PM These guys say they bend 2" solid with a JD2

Chico seems to be the meca for heavy rigs with big blocks, esp fords.
poppycock 03-28-2002, 01:45 PM didn't even consider links. i was thinking he was building a cage with that stuff :D

I use 2 1/8 OD 250 wall Dom for links !
it s the only way to go
for heavy and high horsepower rigs
Adam,
poppycock 03-28-2002, 05:39 PM high horsepower? what's that? mine puts out around 90hp :flipoff2:
Johncm 05-30-2002, 08:21 PM :D
NOODLES 05-30-2002, 10:18 PM I would hope you won't be using a 110 mig to weld that. That 2" .250 wall is total overkill but you will be fine post pics when done. I wanna see.

Adam,
high horse power my ass:flipoff2: if it has more than 396 cubic inches and there is the words BIG BLOCK then it is high horse power FAWKER:D
oh shit i just remebered you have the next best thing:shaking:

Not without hydro, but I have bent it in a JD2 model 3. Mine has a 3" ag cylinder on it, though... I built my own hydro.

I know it's redneck... but if you want to copy it, (it *works*) don't dog it.

Scott, can you post a couple more pics of different views of that set up?

I can... or you can surf 'em. http://www.rockstomper.com/images/tools
Implements of redneck metalbending. :) benderwhatever.jpg are tube bender pix, brakewhatever.jpg are the press brake.
the best part is the 12v pump and its fancy wiring
harkinoff 06-09-2002, 08:52 AM I used a triply nickle pipe bender or you can call it a side winder, electricians use them for bending rigid condiut, industrial sparky's usually have one.anyways they are sweet, and no hassle to use, and they don't mess the pipe up ,10" radius on 2"
